Yer no wrong there. A shambolic display by Martin and his "assistant's" were not much better. If this is the best the area can do then I really fear for the game.

I know they have a tough job and it's a thankless task but some of the decisions last night were astonishing.

His assistant at the end of extra time admitted he made a mistake with the disallowed goal now that is very poor if not cheating of the highest order also Sproule waving away a penalty when it was clearly a wreckless challenge. Very, very poor officials totally ruining the game

Ref who was in charge of the Wigtown/Annan game last Saturday was ok. Big lad with tatooed forearms and a bit of a belly but seemed to have the respect of the players. Without any linesman (other than a bloke from each team) he got most of the offsides right and was probably better than some refs I've seen in the SFL this season. At the end of the game I heard him reminding the Wigtown secretary that his fee was £52...which is quite a lot considering the gate recepits would probably not have covered it.

I assume you weren't at the game as Saints were the far better side and if thats the best Annan can produce for an East side there a joke  . Sproule pulled them out of a hole

Saw a respected local ref slaughter a linesman at half time tonight............lines man was inept to say the least........ref ended up ignoring him and rightly too..........the other "Assistant Ref" was decent but was 65 if he was a day.............clubs cant afford this expence.............if we are to bring inexperienced officials through the ranks at this level surely the S.F.A. should be paying for the assistants and not the clubs? Not sure what the pay for all 3 is but teams have 3 games a week at times just now

Was at the Crichton game yesterday and saw a young linesman lose the plot and swear at a Fleet Star supporter. He managed to get a Fleet Star official sent off arguing about his decisions. Was this the same one? If it is it looks as if the referees coming through are going to be worse than the ones already in the South.

So a player can be sent off for swearing but a linesman gets a ticking off! Where's the justice?
And yes, I agree he was getting a rough time, but that's no excuse for his behaviour. The SFA are wanting clubs to show officials respect, but that one could cause a riot. I hope they never appoint him at a saints game or he'll get eaten alive.

I was at the game on saturday too standing with the Fleetstar supporters. To be fair there were a few people in the linesman's face but can anyone tell me why there was no rope up on that side of the park so the officials and supporters were kept away from the pitch side??? For the linesman to swear at a supporter is just not on!! The fleetstar manager did give him a bit of a rough time but when he was sent off there was a clear elbow on a fleetstar player which was right infront of the linesman and he done nothing. There supposed to be there to help the referee.

I was at that match as well & I thought the Assistant did very well to keep his cool! A lot of armchair referees out there have no idea what it takes to do the job properly, I take my hat off to these guys! I recall the young Assistant telling the supporter to back off NOT f*&k off as was accused, I think my mate actually recorded it on his phone!

glad you have just mentioned in general the standard of referee's yes there are poor ones average ones and good ones but we really should refrain from slating them by name i spoke to a ref last night who informed me that one has taken legal advice about what has been said on here about him, and tho he's man enough to accept that he will be criticised he doesn't like being called a spinless cheat among other things. His soliciter has advised him to take legal action for defermation so he has instructed his soliciter to do whatever necessary and the last he heard was they were to serve legal papers on server to try find out who the person or persons are think it'll be a case of watch this space.

Reading back on comments on refs there could be a few people involved, but seriously how petted must this ref be? I would say this will do more harm to his reputation than anything as clubs will not want a ref who wants to go to court after someone gives him a slating.

I for one aint worried if i have said anythin about the said ref( B) ).

His solicitor isnt Mike McCurry is it? If so we may need to get an equally as good one in the shape of Craig Levein  .

Refs should be able to take abuse though players can take more abuse during a game than a ref and they dont get as much money as a ref does.

You're a silly little man. Refs should be able to take more abuse because they are paid more? Are you on smack? The players should be able to take it if they give it out, same with anyone.

A ref knows what he is getting into when he signs up to be a ref its obvious he is going to be the centre of attention. They are well looked after refs but they seem to be making more and more mistakes these days.

In a national newspaper yesterday a ref gets £550 for an SPL game thats more than most people get in two weeks wages not bad for 90mins work i would say.

A ref gets 50 odd quid in the SOS and i doubt any team pays their players that!

If a ref cant take the criticism then they shouldnt be a ref, for all the abuse over the years Derek Stocks is still a ref and TBH they guy does a decent job by far the best ref but he isnt a showman like a few and now some ref who gets a bit of abuse wants to take legal action, pathetic!

Bring back Wullie McKnight :D

Yes a ref goes into a game to get abuse? No they go out to make sure the laws of the game are up held. Its a hobby for most of them, if they make a mistake leave it be, so does everyone. If you made a mistake when your making the pie's do you get called a cheat.

Your thing with the SPL ref's is a bit daft, in comparison to the folk they are refing are they paid well? Well the top players anyway?

I was at one game and a player was about greeting because a ref told him to f**k off, quite right I say the abuse he was taking off the player was uncalled for.

Players dont go into games to get abuse either as its a hobby for them doesnt stop people from doing it but as soon as someone gives the ref a bit of stick they all sympathise for them.

IMO refs are making too many mistakes these days and are better paid in all, it doesnt matter what level of football it is the refs are getting poorer. Scotland must produce some of the worst refs, the best ref Scotland had was Hugh Dallas and there is no ref now that comes close to his standard.

Ive read many reports in papers and on the web about an SoS ref and the majority say he was very poor, how can a ref be so poor the majority of the time? If a player was like that he wouldnt be playing same should happen to refs.

Kenny Clark is a good ref, every bit as good as Dallas.

if all the people who come on here
calling referees a cheat think they can
do better all they have to do is take
the exam .learn the laws of the game
17 laws no rules which most supporters
dont have a clue about last man for
example does not appear in the laws
and show referees how easy it is
itrust me it is a lot harder than it looks
