Saints league dream fades Mar 20 2008

ST CUTHBERT WANDERERS’ title hopes suffered a fatal blow after they crashed to a heartbreaking defeat at league leaders Stranraer FC.

The Kirkcudbright men lost 3-2 at Stair Park at the weekend to leave them 13 points adrift of the summit.

Jim McCrossan’s men fought back from a two-goal deficit but didn’t have enough in the tank to leave Wigtownshire with something in the bank.

Having taken just a solitary point from a possible 12 against championship rivals Threave Rovers, Crichton and the Blues, the gaffer knows the game is up.

He said: “Realistically the title now looks to be beyond us.

(Next comes the good part...wait for it)

“We were short of a few players and it is hard to deal with when they played guys who are in their first-team and a level above what we play."

Old excuses are the best ones. I suppose we could use the old Creetown excuse and claim that it was because Rab Davidson was out injured.

Yes, saintslad, perhaps I went too far with that one. But remember, if you are going to dish it out, better learn to take it. Seems finally you saints folk are slowly learning not to rise to the bait. Well done.

Mr DG7, are you a journalist? If not, if you are going to quote articles from a local paper is it not the courteous and decent thing to either credit either the author or the newspaper involved?
