It was made into a decent movie as well, I believe.

When I studied all this, the William Shirer book was the reference text of choice. A weighty tome, but one which I would rather like to re-read.

The most obvious example of the people we have conquered in Europe are the Germans who speak German as a first language. People we have colonised over the years include Iraq, Pakistan and the Palestine/Israel area none of whom speak English as a first language. My point stands.
