Hitler can be given a little bit of credit for suggesting what would later become the Volkswagen Beetle.

There's a good novel by Robert Harriss called Fatherland, in which he describes a scenario where Germany actually won the war and how it changed life in Great Britain.

Hitler was not smart in any way shape or form...he was a homeless painter for fucks sakes...failed painter at that I may add ...who enjoyed cuddling up with young officers in the trenches and then discovered his madness fitted in with the zeitgeist for germany to become a respected/feared nation once gain.

An Airdire fan bitching about Nazis.
Tell me he's having a laff.

On a serious note your second part.

He fitted in with the lunatic notion Gemans had that they had been badly treated after the first world war and ran with it

Is very much wide of the mark, which is why a post war settlement similar the treaty of versailles was not imposed after World War 2.

It was made into a decent movie as well, I believe.

When I studied all this, the William Shirer book was the reference text of choice. A weighty tome, but one which I would rather like to re-read.

Hitler certainly has the right idea when he topped himself.

Shame he didn't think of it 20 years earlier though....

No, no, no. Too much bling. Very garish. At least Adolf accessorised with a much more subtle armband that still positively screamed "Nazi!" Spikes are wonderful but impractical, especially when climbing in and out of the Hindenburg. Hitler's 'tache may not be as impressive but it was a practicality for putting his gas mask on in the first world war, in a way it was probably a good thing he left the gas mask them behind in the 10's and didn't drag in to the 40's where he'd clearly taken his look into something far more sophisticated.

I'm sure Hugo Boss designed their uniforms.

Lies. We conquered most of Europe for a time and they don't speak English as a first language.

Could the people who have misread my quote please have another look. conquered is not colonised. The most obvious example of the people we have conquered in Europe are the Germans who speak German as a first language. People we have colonised over the years include Iraq, Pakistan and the Palestine/Israel area none of whom speak English as a first language. My point stands. All those b*****ds who claim we'd be speaking German are liars.
Now that I've moved into the 1990s and got an internet in the house, I'm back. Briefly no doubt.

Yes. Unless Sky go bankrupt, there is no way Italian football will ever challenge the Premiership again.
