This was a quality programme. Basically Dave Gorman attempted to drive across the USA using only independently owned businesses (restaurants, hotels, petrol stations). He's a vegetarian and his car was a 1970s station wagon. In doing this he went hundreds of miles out of his way to drive to towns called Independence and his camera women quit after 3 weeks because of a bad back.

I think he did well in only running out of petrol twice although i can't believe he neglected to fill up his spare petrol cans when he had the chance. The night he got depressed and gorged on burger king was great tv.

I was going to watch it but my reception for the independently funded More 4 isn't as good as the publically funded BBC channels.

My problem with it was he seemed to think that only independents have interesting people working for them and chain stores don't have any characters. Well, there are quite a few 'characters' working at my local Tesco that help to make the shopping experience more interesting.
