You can probably guess the outcome but! Just been reading this thread very sad, but also quite shocking the way it develops.
No way sould an 18yr old be behind the wheel of a 500HP car IMO. I remember driving my dads 2.0I vauxall at that age and even then that scared the shit out of me till i was used to it and was only aloud to drive it with Dad next to me to prove I could cope with it.

What a fucking idiot. His irresponsibility led to the deaths of 4 others, basically manslaughter. WTF was an 18 y/o doing in a car that powerfull there is no way in hell he had the experience or intelligence to control that car unless he was a prof. driver.
One day alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. Which road do I take? she asked. Where do you want to go? was his response. I don't know, Alice answered. Then, said the cat, it doesn't matter. - Lewis Carroll

His irresponsibilty?
More like his fathers. What idiot would give an 18 year old carte blanche to drive around in a 500 bhp beast like that?
I'm 34 and my car has considerably less horses yet it still scares me sometimes and I've been driving for 16 years.

It's my solo party, it's my body, and if I choose to abuse it with my lifestyle and my music
What the f**k! I can't lose! It's my life! Why is it I can't keep you far enough away?

I wouldn't have anything above a 1.2 as my first car. Basically because the insurance would be crippling. Young drivers and really powerfull cars don't really mix that well, they can't handle the car, or the temptation to boot it.

I've long campaigned for a power restriction on teenage drivers. Most of these accidents happen at night so perhaps a curfew would also be a good idea.

Yeah, a Corsa is a car I'm considering as my first, my instructor used to have one, and I quite liked it. He has a 307 now.

Who are you doing your lessons with and when's your test?
My lessons are with Waring School of motoring, my instructor is also a Rovers fan, so we usually end up discussing the games during my lessons. My test is tommorow, I'm starting to get quite nervous now.

Really, really try hard not to let your nerves get to you tomorrow. That's where I fell down in both driving tests I've sat. Also remember to eat some actual proper food before you go. Hyped up on caffiene and sugar only adds to the shakes.

My top tip, never ever apologise to the instructor!
They know you are nervous, and they will expect you to make mistakes, so if you do, you have to show that you can deal with it and stay calm. Getting flustered and stammering out apologies doesnt help.

Also very true. A friend of mine made a bit of a cock up on his test (I think he was reversing around the corner or something), and as far as he was concerned, it was a huge cock up as well. He just started the whole manoeuvre again, and as he thought he'd failed, he just did everything without even thinking about it. He passed with flying colours. When he asked the examiner how he'd passed after the cock up, he was told "You didn't panic, you just corrected your mistake without prompting".

Good luck with that pal.
Just be calm as possible and remember that you wouldnt be doing your test if your instructor didnt think you were capable of passing it.
Let us know how you got on.

Girl at my work hit a child and still passed!
I panicked in the first minute, and when the instuctor told me to drive forward and then reverse into a bay, I checked all the mirrors etc. stuck the car in reverse, and then smacked it into the kerb. Not to be deterred, I put it in neutral, checked everything again, stuck it in reverse, and hit the kerb again.
It was only on the third go that I realised my problem was that I kept putting it in reverse, rather than first gear to pull forwards...I was so nervous! Still passed though.

Ridiculous that an 18 year old was let loose on an M5... my car has 100bhp and it scares me how quick it takes off.

If you fuck up one of the manoeuvres ask to state that you know what you did wrong and ask to retry it.
I hit the kerb reversing round a corner and asked to retry and passed (first time

However, if you shunt into a truck and crumple the car to pieces, "I know what I did wrong" will probably not help matters.
Anyway, good luck with the test!

Its the photos of the car that really got me, it just disintegrated. The video said it hit the tree and split in 2, I hate to think what speed he was doing.
At that age you feel like you are immortal and simply do not have the time behind the wheel to make a decision on your speed or understand how a car handles.
It looks very much like he just did not have the experiance to judge the breaking distance involved

by all means kill yourself but to take 4 others with you what a p***k. by the sounds of it he would crash a 1.0 nissan micra so with the epic power of the bmw he didn't stand a chance. i have been driving ten years and getting behind the wheel of a car like that which has more power than some ferrari's would scare the shite out of me
