Where are all the folk that said Brechin are the 2nd worst team in the league?

Glad we're starting to show what we're really capable of, wins against Airdrie (4-2), Peterhead (2-1), Ayr (5-1), Alloa (4-0) and a draw against Raith at Starks is league winning form never mind relegation. Just a shame we've left it a bit late.

Another goal for 19 year old striker Calum Smith (4 in 4), a brace for Byers after he scored against Ayr on Saturday and Charlie King, who has been immense upfront for us.

Onwards and upwards. B)

However well Brechin have been playing of late thats a pathetic result for Alloa. We had some bad luck over the festive season but bouncing back from that was a test for us and instead we concede 4 at home. Not good enough and the players will need to put it right quickly.

Another solid performance from the team. Good result today given the form Alloa have been in especially at home. Again great work rate from the team and never gave Alloa the chance to settle. Front two of Smith and King closed the defenders down and are proven to be a great partnership. The midfield are supporting the strikers better and we are getting the benefits from goals from all over the park.

Very good goals today. Could have been more today with Calum Smith hitting the bar from 25 yards on the turn early on and Darren Smith going close late on. Byers could have had a hat-trick today as well as Alloa were stretched trying to chase the game.

That said Alloa's number 9 missed a great chance to make it 3-1 and Nelson had a couple of good stops in the first half.

Three defeats on the bounce but this was definitely of the Airdrie ilk as opposed to the Raith variety.

Brechin were by FAR the better team today. I was really impressed with their #8 (Byers?) but generally, they were quicker, stronger, smarter and just seemed to want it more. I'm finding it really hard to summarise our performance other than woeful and I don't think that really does it justice. We were terrible.

Dougie Wilson, bless his barnacles, covered every blade of artificial turf but with no one else on the team with even half of his determination, his efforts were wasted.

Defensively, we were as bad as the scoreline suggests. Just an inability to close down or put in a decent tackle and we got what we deserved. If you give people space and invite them to shoot, you can't moan when they do just that. I'd probably earmark Flea as having a particularly bad game, but to be honest, it was perm one out of four.

Honestly, looking for positives from today's game is like looking for a hot pie from the shop.
This is not an exit.

I agree about Byers, and with a bit more self belief he could be even better. It's no coincidence that when he plays well the team plays well.If he can stay injury free I can see a bigger club coming in for him.

Depends on what you mean by "one of the best". Maybe one of the best 100 :P . Personally I wouldnt even say he is the best midfielder at Brechin, Id rather have Darren Smith in my team.

I'm really disappointed in the way that Alloa played today, we played not too badly middle to front. One offside "goal", one disallowed for a goalmouth stramash, a great fingertip save from Nelson and a howler of a miss from Ferguson. We did create a few good chances..........however defensively it was like watching the team from last season in the way the whole team defended.
I feel that Brechin had a real desire to win today and their players were busting a gut all over the park to win every ball, they really showed our players up, so fair play to them. Worth their win.

I can't be the only one to notice this but since we got both our strikers back from injury and playing we don't seem to be getting the points or playing the good, passing game we had been showing until recently. Too many long hopeful balls through the middle for my liking.
Made a point of telling Maitland after the game that it had been a gutless display from our boys and wasn't good enough.............all in all it has been a shit festive period for Alloa.

Anyway time for more ale!

Freezing your 'nads off whilst watching that guff. Not clever being an Alloa fan today!

I kept waiting for the team to start turning it on. I was still waiting at the end of the game.

I thought that against Airdrie and the Rovers, we needed someone who would do the unglamerous stuff in the middle of the park.
McClune is that man (in my opinion), plus he's a half-decent football player too.

We seemed totally devoid of ideas - except to punt it up the park and let Walker etc. go for, and win, almost every high ball.

We do have good football players but they need to start showing it again - and quickly.

I take absolutely nothing away from Brechin, who I feared would score every time they went up the park. Two fantastic strikes for their first two goals too.

BTW Brechin fans, not the best way to treat your hosts as you first-foot them :P

I wouldn't take any midfielders ahead of Darren Smith in this division.

I still think Byers is easily one of the best midfielders in this league on his day. His only problem is consistency. When he's on the ball, he can turn games around.

Thanks to all involved at City - we've had a tough few months, but now are showing our true form. Another fantastic performance today and actually left disappointed to only win by 4 goals.

BTW - I see Monster has reared his ugly head again .......... amazing what a win against the league's bottom side can do for a psycho! (Mind you - if that's a Pic or the Monster - mmmmmmmmmm - I'm in love)

f**king rank rotten today. What the hell did our players have for Christmas dinner because they have been dire since then. No pass marks today - everyone was gash. Why didnt we try to play the ball on the deck? And in the very few chances we had we either put it wide or gave Nelson an easy save. Improvement needed very soon. I said at the game today that I reckon Brechin will finish above us.

Just read the managers statement. Fairbairn is no loss. Mackie is finished. Hodge can go too. I hope we can bring in at least a couple of new faces because we need a few changes in the team at the moment. I missed seeing the boy from Cumbernauld earlier as I was away but by all reports he looked decent. I hope so.

Brechin were well worth their win today.
