We're looking to take in some form of beer lunch on Saturday before the game, any smokies care to suggest an eathouse? We're contemplating the boozer at the Red Lion park on the way in - any suggestions?
Looking forward to this, hopefully we'll have some guys back following the break. Pat Clarke to score and sicken the smokies.

You'll get something in the Wetherspoons in the middle of town.
Or could go to Ogston's in the high street, where there'd be more chance of getting the Newcastle-Liverpool game.

Whats the Wetherspoons like, quite rough? Cheap drink as usual i assume?
'Terracing celebrations were suitably extreme. Indeed, the Cowdenbath faithful - all 60-odd of them - kept the rest of us entertained during the not infrequent dull moments. They regaled us with everything from "Cooper's a poof" (difficult to substantiate) to "black and white shite", a suitably assonant summary of the quality of their opponents'

Only been in a couple of times, but it seems pretty much like any other Wetherspoons. Not my preferred sort of pub but I suppose you know what you'll get. Think it is really cheap though.

Camped at that Red lion park before it's quite modern therefore must have been done up recently.

Was really surprised by the lack of footballing ability from Arbroath, I expected a tougher game. Unfortunately from an Arbroath perspective we could still be playing and the result would still be the same. I lost count the number of times they punted the long ball straight out of the park in the first half. We had a handful of other chances with Pat Clark shooting narrowly wide twice and McConalogue hitting the bar from 20 yards with a spectacular volley. Certainly the sharp passing movement of our players caused them problems all game.
Thought Cowden never really got out of first gear for the main part of the game and the sheer physical nature (and that's being kind) of the Arbroath play spoiled what could've been a much better game. Paul Tosh, for an experienced pro - tut tut, red card for raising your hands all over a free-kick which you were awarded.
The start of the 2nd half saw McGlashan's tactics completely obvious - if you can't get the ball, kick the shit out of anyone else who has it then confront the referee. It certainly worked as 3 of our 4 yellow cards were for players standing up to over zealous tackles (one which could've ended up with one of our players seriously injured).
Hospitality at Tutties Neuk was excellent as was the Chilli Burger, certainly to be recommended as the place is bloody freezing.

Never in danger apart from life and limb at the hands of McGlashan's maniacs. Lichties are dirtier than ever and their start to the second half was cynical. Whack Davie Hay with late challenge after 30 seconds, go right over the ball in 60 seconds on Hannah - should have been straight red not yellow. Soon after yet another atrocious late challenge brought them another yellow. 3rd Division fitba at its worst. Cowden didn't need to exert themselves although Scullion had to limp off with a bad one after another Arbroath foul. Intimidation is still McGlashan's tactic and it served him right Tosh was sent off. Pat Clarke best player on the park - Arbroath lucky to finish with 10 players on the park.

Have to agree with Blue Coo and Cowden Cowboy Arbroath seem even dirtier that when we were in the 3rd division and thats saying something.
I was standing next to the stand in the 2nd half and got a good view on the tackle on Scuillion which was shocking, the offender Reilly (no 12) managed to get out of the way in the ruck of players and the ref never said anything to him.
Credit to the standside linesman for keeping his flag up for the penalty when Freeland waved play on, a lot of "assistants" don't seem to assist and let the refs get on with it so if you are reading this Mr Brunton well done

Bryan never touched Davie Hay, stopped right before him, and Hay went over attempting to get him booked.

Barry Sellars was the best man on the park, it was just a shame that his team-mates didn't have a clue. It was actually worrying how far he stood out in the game.

Cowden totaly dominated the game from start to finish against one of the dirtiest sides i have seen. The two footed tackle on hannah at the start of the 2nd half was a disgrace also tosh headbutted davie that was why he got sent off. That said very very easy.

I was surprised that the referee didn't award the penalty straight away, it looked clear cut to me. but fair play to him for consulting with the linesman, that doesn't happen often enough in my opinion, despite the fact that several years ago they were upgraded to assistant referee status.
Cowden were the better side but I was a bit frustrated that they couldn't add to their single-goal lead. Also my patience is starting to wear thin with Stephen McConnalogue. One goal from 15 games simply isn't good enough for a striker (and it's not as if he's been laying them on for others).
Should Welsh swallow his pride and dump the wee man or persevere in the hope that he will improve?

We actually had a few chances to grab a goal in the first half, but they were all falling to Watson, who was awful. The attempt in the first minute was simply crap.
At times we had decent territorial possession, but couldn't really create the opportunities.
It's a bad day when the closest you come to a goal was an effort from the halfway line.

McGlashan will have Bryan's guts for garters then as he must have been the only one of the Dirty Lichties not to put the boot in.

That 2 footed challenge that won the ball perfectly, without touching Davie Hannah who went down like he'd been shot?
Not saying there weren't some bad challenges, but Cowden are just as physical as we are, and they were the ones starting all the handbags, pushing and shoving people about every 5 minutes.
On the football side of things, dissapointing stuff from us. As LL said, Barry was the best player on the pitch, and far better than any of his teammates today. So frustrating watching a side we all know can do it, but never do.

Scoreline was more than a little flattering to us truth be told. Although the effort was there and we had a fair amount of posession, the fact is that we simply never really tested Hay apart from the occasional speculative long shot. It was all pretty disapointing.

Simple Simon you never change. I think you'll find any 'handbags' usually came just after yet another Lichtie two footed lunge at a Cowden player. Our bookings are for protesting and then getting involved in a wee bit pushing and shoving. Arbroath's were for cynical over the ball stuff and a red card for a head butt. I remember how you weren't able to spot the Smokie pensioner throw the ball at Mark Baxter but your eagle eye manages to see every challenge by Arbroath players as corinthian like or that blame should be shared 50/50. Your maroon tinted specs make your views the equivalent of England as seen by Motty. No doubt you were with Freeland as regards seeing the most blatant of penalties as well.
You had two players booked within about 2 minutes of the restart obviously urged on by Mad Dog McGlashan. How you can condone the challenge on Hannah is beyond me - that was a dreadful challenge. 4 of the last 5 times we we have played Arbroath you have had players sent off for violent conduct. The other game was the one where your intimidatory tactics paid off via a spectator hitting a Cowden player deliberately with the ball and he was sent off for angrily throwing it back at him (i.e.retaliation) in an incident provoked by Arbroath fans (see also yesteday something was seemingly thrown onto the pitch). Our other sending off that day came when we had been provoked enough and refused to just lie down and take a kicking. Mauchlen got the main instigator McGlashan with one that his own tactics truly deserved. Of course McGlashan then had to sub himself so he could have an altercation in the tunnel. Only other Arbroath game I've seen in recent times was at Alloa when Lichties fans kicked down the advertising hoardings and had a bit of a punch up after invading the pitch.
McGlashan said before game he wanted to see how his men proved themsleves against 2nd Division opposition. Football wise they were found lacking and discipline wise they showed up the 3rd Division with their tactics. It's obvious Arbroath has a major discipline problem - more red cards than Vinny Jones in recent seasons - seems every couple of weeks you will read that Arbroath ended up with 10 men.

First Cowden game in months and really enjoyed it. Great too see everyone again
First half Cowden were in control just playing some great football. Missed the incident involving Tosh so cannot comment but I agree with every post above that states Arbroath are a dirty team - if the Cowden players had done challenges like that the Arbroath fans would be starting topics on here called "soinso is a feckin disgrace"! I had a mate at the game and even he agreed that Arbroath are the dirtiest team he has ever seen in his life. I give you credit though - 4 red cards in 5 games against us deserves a medal!
