You are spot on, I would say they are the biggest spenders in the league. They are backed by a big sponsor I think.

Only problem is the cup is (or appears to be) registered with the EOSFA. So they decide, or at least they have the most clubs. I would have preferred to see the SFA decide the dates; or at least help out with negotiations. The tournament, from next season onwards, should be played much earlier.

i would agree with your last point, but surely it is an SFA trophy not registered to the eos just because they have most teams

According to the SFA Handbook (which could be wrong I grant you) the South Challenge Cup is registered with the EOSFA. And not with the Southern Counties FA. Now, I grant you that I don't know anything more than this, but there must clearly be some reason why this section:

http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/res/documents/ ...ssocLeagues.pdf
(to see what I mean, go on to page 9, which has the list of recognised registered competitions)

shows 'SFA Challenge Cup South' with the EOSFA, and its not with the Southern Counties FA. I would wager, and its a guess, that the EOSFA are the organising committee - in the same way that the HFL organises the North Challenge Cup, and Golspie have no say. In practice the cup should be organised by negotiation, but from newspaper, radio and online reports it seems there has been something of a disagreement over this inaugural competition. Hopefully these can be ironed out, as the cup could mean over £1,000 for a club losing in Round 3, as an example.

Before you ask where the Cree Lodge and Tweedie cups are, I made the same mistake, they are still with the Wigtownshire FA (on the next page of the handbook). If as I'm guessing the South Challenge Cup is vested with the EOSFA, presumably this is because they've most clubs?

Can you tell me who the Wigtownshire FA btw? I'm interested. Are they different people to the SOSFL & Southern Counties FA? Or are they the same people and they 'have different hats' when conducting Wigtownshire FA business. Why not just abolish the Wigotownshire FA, and move cups to the Southern Counties FA? (Or if you asked some SOSFL member clubs, maybe don't bother and scrap the cups too!!). Seems a bit of an anachronism, especially when clubs from outwith Wigtownshire enter. The Inverness FA is a similar situation for Aberdeen/North clubs IIRC.

The Inverness FA has nothing to do with any of the Aberdeenshire teams. The clubs who enter its cup are I Caley T, Clach, Forres, Ross County and Elgin I think.

The Wigtownshire FA is no doubt made up of reps of its clubs.

Quote

The South of Scotland League only formed in 1946, and all previous attempts to establish league football in the area had failed to take hold. Occasionally a Southern Counties League had been establish, at other times it was regional, Stewartry and Wigtownshire the two.

The Southern Counties FA covers Dumfriesshire, Wigtownshire and Kirkcudbrightshire. The Wigtownshire FA dates from 1889 and existed as a separate entity until the late 1980s, with its members also in the SCFA.

Only clubs in the Wigtownshire FA could enter the Cree Lodge Cup until the 1950s.

Most of the old FAs still have their cups, though in reality it tends to be non-league or Reserve teams that take part, unless it's part of the pre-season programme.

I think the Inverness Cup is an U21 tourney, even for the Highland sides. The North of Scotland Cup and Aberdeenshire Cup are taken seriously by the non-league entrants though. The Aberdeenshire Shield is a lesser competition though, but the Aberdeenshire FA do run a league, which the relevant Highland sides and Banks O'Dee enter.

Cheers for that. I still stand by my conclusion that it would be a lot simplet just to scrap the Wigtownshire, and puts cups into Southern Counties - presumably the same could occur with the Inverness, and put cups into the North of Scotland. They're surely just anachronisms now.

I assume we are talking about Richie Maxwell? Aye he was paid for by individual sponsorship as opposed to the club, as all signing on fees are at present. I'm not saying we don't spend money but we are not the biggest spenders.

And how do you know how much creetown spend? I have spoke to 2 players this week that have been offered good money to go to saints. A lot more than they would get at creetown i assure you. Next you will be telling us that Jim McC is doing the job for the love of the club
