SL Benfica midfielder Augustin Binya has been banned for six UEFA competition matches by UEFA for a tackle on Celtic FC's Scott Brown in the UEFA Champions League Group D match in Glasgow on 6 November.

Binya was dismissed in the 85th minute of the match, which Celtic won 1-0, for the challenge, which seriously endangered the physical health of the opposing player. He will miss Benfica's next UEFA Champions League matches away to AC Milan on 28 November and at home to Shakhtar Donetsk on 4 December. The remaining four-match suspension applies to any future games in UEFA club competition. An appeal may be lodged against this decision within three days of the dispatch of the reasoned decision.

I am sure it will be reduced on appeal - possibly by two games.

That'll be reduced to three games on appeal, I'd imagine.

as it says , this will get appealed , then watch as it turns into three games

Any right for appeal should be waved in this case as it would demonstrate how seriously everyone could/should view this , then move on......................otherwise , turns into the same old same old !!

Highly unlikely to be reduced to 3.

It was a very bad tackle and I know i'll be slaughtered for this but there was no momentum behind the lunge...both players were fairly static...i've seen many a worse challenge when a player slides in studs showing at an ankle....the force of someone lunging in whilst running is much worse than a standing challenge...but hey ho.

As I stated above, I think it extremely likely that it will be, rightly or wrongly.

It seems a little harsh to me. As Ron said, there clearly isn't any malicious intent - I can think of worse tackles made which didn't get 6 games bans.

It would be better if it was reported in terms of what his additional punishment was over and above the mandatory suspension for being red carded.

If we are suggesting a 3 game ban on appeal, then we would then be talking about UEFA reducing their additional punishement of either 5 or 4 to 2. More likely reduced to 4 games in total on appeal IMO.

It was five games on top of an automatic one game ban, surely?

Was Lee Bowyer only given a three game additional ban for jumping on that guy's head?

You are probably right.

I can't see them cutting the additional ban from 5 to 2 then. More likely 5 to 3.
