Rangers Fan's Barcelona Bungle
Nov 4 2007 By Norman Silvester
Football's An El Of A Funny Old Game Fan Books Jet To City 700 Miles From Match
A RANGERS fan booked flights to see his team play Barcelona - to an airport almost 700 miles from the match.
Bungling Paul McDowall - nicknamed Glum by pals - booked £125 return flights to Malaga thinking he could taxi it fromthere to Barcelona.
But he will land in the Costa del Sol - 12 hours from Nou Camp stadium, where the Champions League game will take place.
Now Paul, of Maybole, Ayrshire, faces a 690-mile each-way race against time on trains and buses.
He is due to arrive in Malaga at noon on Tuesday with the game set to kick off the next day - 33 hours later. His main problem will be getting back in time for his return flight to Prestwick at 12:40pm on Thursday - only 14 hours after the game ends.
Paul, a golf caddy and labourer, said: "Direct flights to Barcelona were all booked or too expensive. I thought Malaga was the nearest airport.
"To make matters worse, I haven't got a ticket to the game or found a hotel yet - but I'm determined to go."

Priceless. As a stupid hun once asked on the supporters bus as it approached London for a home international game in the seventies . " Is this anywhere near Londonderry " True story by the way.

For his own benefit and safety he should be locked up in a padded cell for the rest of his days.

I wonder if the rangers supporters have attacked any elderly priests yet, like they did the last time they went to Barcelona.
Remember this is the team who hold the unenviable record of being the first side to win a major European trophy and not being able to defend it, as they were banned from European competition due to the behaviour of their supporters in of all places Barcelona.
Add to that, their behaviour when they played Villareal and maybe that'll explain why the Spanish polis have catagorised the game as high risk.

Not very positive news from Barcelona - spanish are nae happy:
Madrid - Three Glasgow Rangers fans have been injured in incidents ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash away to Barcelona. According to the digital version of Sport on Wednesday, none of the injured fans are in a serious condition, and their injuries have mostly been caused by broken glass, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
All three are being treated in the emergency unit at the Hospital de Mar in Barcelona.
Sport claims that around 700 Rangers fans have "provoked incidents" in the centre of Barcelona early Wednesday.
The local police have ordered several bars to close along the famous Ramblas, though they have not carried out any arrests.
In total, between 15,00 and 20,000 Rangers fans are in the Catalan capital, of whom only around 6,000 have tickets for the match.
Barcelona and Rangers are joint top of Group E, with seven points from three games.
