The football thus far in the CL has largely been poor, although competitive imo

I would suggest that both groups are still pretty much open although I'd much rather be in our position at this stage than Sellick's

Many of the teams will easily step it up if they make it through to the last 16 but I'm not sure either of the OF have too much more to offer although in Rangers' case just staying as solid as they have done would be good enough to provide a platform of possibility

Rangers might do OK in the UEFA Cup if they get knocked out.

Reckon Lyon will qualify in second place, even if they have to win at Ibrox to do so.

If we go on the assumption we'll take nothing in Barcelona our game in Stuttgart is going to be massive

If we could win it Lyon would be out cos there's no chance they'll now beat us in the head-to-head

It would certainly set up our last game v Lyon nicely mind you, especially if they win against Stuttgart in 2 weeks

As long as we manage to go into the Lyon game at least level with them on points, we'll be pretty much certain to go through. I just can't see them beating us by 4 at Ibrox

reckon rangers will make the next round. but the game against barca showed how far they're behind the real quality sides in the competetion. celtic will probably win their home games but i think shakter will qualify and celtic into the uefa cup

Greece won EURO 2004 playing the way Rangers did on Tuesday

If we have an extended run and take a few scalps I'll happily accept it, in the same way I have done with Scotland recently

In fitba you must be tactically alert, committed and play to your strengths

That's bang on.

It's not as if we (Scottish sides as a whole) can get the quality of player other teams can, so we've got to ensure the other side has to try to adapt to suite what works for us. Walter Smith's a past-master at this, so you might even see a cheeky quarter-final or so this season :o

I would be well chuffed by that

In reality although we talk about it the fact is that once you get to the knockout stages anythging is possible

Two years ago Rangers were knocked out in the last 16 on away goals by a Villarreal side which took Arsenal to penalties in the next round

Last season Sellick only went out in extra time to the eventual winners in the last 16 too

Hate to burst your bubble, but you need to be atleast 3 point ahead of them for that to be true. If you are level on points with them, all they need is the win to go through.

You are almost certainly going to have to win in Stuttgart for that to even be possible.

Possible, but fairly unlikely.

Even if we lose to Barca and Stuttgart, then we are likely to go into the Lyon match with a point lead anyway - as Lyon are unlikely to beat Barca- and we can play on the counter attack.
That is, of course, assuming that Lyon can beat a Stuttgart side whos only hope is that they can get a result against Lyon.

Yep, I fancy you to go into the last game with a point lead.

If that is the case you would be strong favourites to go through, as Rangers are perfectly constructed to get a draw. Still have a feeling Lyon aren't a bad side though, unlike Stuttgart, who are shite.

We need Milan to do us a favour in Donetsk. However I cant see anything other than 2 wins from our next 2 in the group which will leave the San Siro with 9 points with hopefully Milan qualified.

Fancy both to get through to last 16 tbh.

If Rangers beat Lyon, they are through, regardless of any other result. It would put them on 10 points, one more than the maximum either Lyon or Stuttgart would be able to get.

I'd not worry too much about the game tomorrow night and aim to get a point in Stuttgart. Barcelona really don't look like they are going to lose to anyone in this group, and presuming Lyon beat Stuttgart and fail to beat Barca as I have said, we will need only a draw with Lyon to go through.

Though of course a win in Stuttgart potentially qualifies us that night.....

Also, Rangers are being quoted at only 14/1 to get past the quarter final stage!?! (i.e. Semi finals)

What are the bookies privvy to here that I am not?

Edited to add: Fingers crossed Stuttgart nick a draw in the Stade Gerland, that would always make things easier!!

Rangers have proved difficult to beat so far, and also no-one knows who'll play who yet in the knockout stages, so the bookies are correct to be cagey at this stage.
