If Ayr had a little more " rub of the green " B) today they could ( and probably should ) have had more than the 3 they got. The no.6 ( stevenson?? ) for Ayr was the standout for me, looked like he could easily step up a level or two. Anyway, going to be a long hard season for us and much improvement is required.

I haven't read the rest of this thread so maybe it's already been explained, but why was Weir taken off with 20 mins to go? For my money he was the best of a very bad lot - and why replace a striker when you're chasing the game?
If thats Ayr playing really well you have some shite team. You won because we gave you two goals of a start. Where did you see 7 goals coming from?
I agree with the comment about the substitution tho - taking off a striker when we already had a defensive formation. McGlynn, what were you thinking about? I anyone needed to come off it was Winter - Hislop is having a bad time, but Winter is utterly inept.

So the fans can give whatever abuse they want - without reply??
Thats just pish Robbo. Irrespective of whether any of us think he's played well of not, if fans are going to abuse a player for 90 mins then they should expect some back. What he did today was not abusive in any way.
And despite being barracked for 90 mins, he still fought to take the penalty. He coud easily have taken the cowardly way out - but he still grabbed that ball, even though he knew if he missed he'd get twice as much of the same.
Good on him. If only a few others ( ie midfielders ) had the same backbone we'd be heading for Div 1.

I don't carew who these guys are, what they've done for the club, how long they've been fans etc. Those sort are not welcome at Starks Park, or any other Rovers match, and I would be delighted if they pissed off somewhere else on a Saturday afternoon. I'll even pay their £14 entry fee.
Well played today Stevie Hislop, you were perfectly correct to 'shush' these clowns when you scored, especially after the penalty which they were willing you to miss. The vast majority of Rovers fans are BEHIND you. Well done, and keep up the form.

I was going to come on here and sing the praises of the fans for being behind Fahey and the team, even at 3 down.
Then Hislop scored

We were given a huge advantage today even before a ball was kicked. John McGlynn based his team selection on stopping Micky Moore and went with three less than mobile centre-halfs. I thought it was a strange tactical move for a team sitting top of the division surely its better to concentrate on your own strengths than worry to much about the other team.
Anyway it played into our hands and we were able to get the ball down and Jerome had a field day out on the right.
Not too much praise heading our way from the Raith fans considering we travelled to the then league leaders and won the game comfortably although it suits us fine to be continually written off as a `poor` team. Is that 8 games undefeated now?
Best for us today were the ever improving Murray Henderson and David Dunn who covered every inch of the pitch. Good all round performance from everyone however in a tough away fixture.

What absolute and utter, utter shite!
Hislop puts in a shift every single week, is chipping in with goals and yet still gets abused every week.
The small minority of Raith Rovers 'supporters' who continue berate the players are fannies and deserved to be embarassed by Hislop.
Good on Hissy for doing something about it! I'd have done the same.
The fact that two of them even rushed down the front to give him abuse it laughable.
As for the 'Should never wear the jersey again'.
Get a grip of yourself, and more importantly, get behind the team!!

I still think we should have won yesterday, we certainly didn't deserve to lose. As for the Ayr fan claiming they should have won by 7
Chance after chance fell our way, but until stoppage time we didn't take any. 21 shots at goal tells it's own story...

Spot on Ronnie. I hope Rovers fans along with everyone else we play keep on about how pish we are, and we can just concentrate on picking up the results - now that Watt has FINALLY discoverd that 3-5-2 long ball doesn't work.

Apart from Williams hitting the bar and Wardlaw hitting the post.
Here's my tuppenceworth:
I thought we were at it from the start today and worked really hard. Getting the first as a gift gave us the foothold required and our second was a good goal, with some excellent passing and a good finish. Rovers rarely threatened in the first half, but for 15 minutes after the re-start they could and probably should have scored, we were panicking and kicking it anywhere.
Then Ryan Stevenson picks up the ball, runs at Gods Donkey, rips the piss right out of him and buries the shot, putting the game to bed. Rovers did manage a couple of consolation goals thanks to very helpful officials and tired legs from our extra-time in midweek, but I don't care - a good performance and three points. B)
As for the booing of Hislop, I don't understand it. Marvin Andrews was rubbish again yesterday, his distribution is awful and he was all over the place for our third goal, yet he's a hero, as is Carcary, who was on the field for half an hour and touched the ball maybe three times?
Either support your team as a whole or don't bother.
Also, the hero worship of McGlynn seems pretty misguided to me. The team he put out yesterday was far too defensive against an Ayr team who were always going to tire after midweek. Another thing, why take of the number 10, who was clearly Rovers best player up to that point? Bizarre.
Overall, I'm very happy with the win and three points, particularly for Steven, kilgour, Pratt Street Fudd, bring_back_the_twa_hoops etc etc UP YE! B)

The way Rovers fans cream themselves over Carcary is embarrasing. The thing is, all this attention has gone to the lads head, and he thinks hes a superstar (hes not the only one in that team)
Mglynn needs to get some arsed kicked.
There's no doubt Carcary blows hot and cold, however, he is one of the few players in our squad who is capable of creating an opening from nothing. There was no excuse for us sending out a team with 7 or 8 defensively minded outfield players in the side and leaving someone like him (and Sloan for that matter) on the bench.
Someone perhaps needs to kick McGlynns arse and not just the players.

Too true. Who was your number 6? Was that Stevenson? He ran riot in the last 30 minutes, I don't think we tackled him once in that entire period. In that period of the game if Ayr had showed a bit more composure up front they could easily have had 6 or 7, while we could have managed a couple more goals ourself I suppose.

Can't say I'm his biggest fan as a football player, but there is no point at all in booing him. Will it make him play better. No. Will it make the team play better. No. So why do it? I have to say though, Hislop shouldn't gesture to the fans - he should be a bigger person than that.
As for the game:
Have to say Fahey probably cost us the game. His two howlers gave the game the shape it had in the second half - had he made those two saves the game would have been completely different. The third seemed to go straight through his outstretched arms as well.
First half was an awful game. Second half was decent entertainment. We didn't really play great football in the second half, it was just classic "Up an at 'em" and gung-ho tactics. Which were effective, it must be said. But it also left gaps at the back which Ayr exploited. About 3-3 would have been a fair scoreline for the second half. I thought their was going to be a grandstand last 30 seconds at the end, but it wasn't to be.
It was a stonewall penalty - the ref must have been the only person in the ground that didn't think so. Fair play to the linesman though for pointing out his error.
Craig Wilson was my MOM, despite some wild shooting at times. Mark Campbell did alright as well. Thought Carcary made a difference when he came on. As Monster pointed out though, Marvin was awful. Craig Winter was pish too.
We deserved to lose yesterday, as we did last week too. A win is required next week.
