I know, I know - the SPL is back this weekend, but ...

Looking ahead to next week I think the Scottish clubs could really benefit from the resurgence of the national team.

On the face of it Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen have pretty tough games next week but given the national teams exploits, what Marcello Lippi has said about Scotland being THE emerging nation, top of Group B, etc - I wonder if that might have an impact on how the foreign clubs think about playing our clubs?

I think all 3 of our clubs will struggle as the opposition next week look pretty tough, but there's definitely more belief about Scottish football just now. I think the psychological benefits of the recent Scotland performances could count for a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I still think the Dons will get dumped out by Dnipro unfortunately and I still think the Old Firm will be doing well to qualify for the next round of the Champs League - although Celtic have a potentially better draw than Rangers, albeit a slightly trickier fixture list in my opinion.

I hope that Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen all lose heavily.

Yep, me too.

Actually I mind less if aberdeen get humped, though I think they will.

Hopefully the other two don't win a point between them, and get humiliated regularly.

I would agree with that. I can't see us winning but nobody thought Scotland would beat France the other night. Anything can happen.

I just hope the televised games are good, the Celtic-ManUre games last season were excellent.

I am pretty ambivelent about Aberdeen, I think they will get their arses handed to them though.

I don't understand people supporting the opposition against Scottish clubs in Europe, particularly against a non-OF club. I'd like to see all three doing well, although I don't see the correlation between a good national team performance, and a good set of results for the clubs.

Agree with all of this.

I'll be backing all of the clubs in Europe. This includes Rangers and Celtic.

All Scottish clubs will get my backing as they do every year and will continue to do so until the day Falkirk somehow qualify for Europe ;)

According to Gordon Smith, it's the OF that are carrying the Scottish game:
