Of Out Of Cl Europe, Well There's The Uefa Cup

The Uefa cup is what the OF will be aiming at as both side have no chance in the CL group stages,
based on this week perfromances. Both of Glasgows big two will be slaugherted by their european
opponents and will lead to the firing of both managers, if we're lucky.

Rangers don't have a chance of qualifying for the last 16, sadly, and I do say that with genuine regret because I think it would be fantastic to have the Old Firm both in the last 16 as well. But Rangers can make the UEFA cup if they take points off Stuttgart and Lyon at home and get some draws away to those two. Even a point from Barca would be incredible.

I do believe Celtic can get through though. We're better than Shakhtar, and I think on our day we can beat Benfica. We're a better team than we were last year though. We need to win in Donetsk though, we owe them a trouncing after the humiliation last time around

What do you have against "wee teams" ?

Dunfermline boss Jim McIntyre must be at a loss to explain the succession of goalkeeping howlers he's witnessed from the frazzled Pars this season. I'm picturing a scene akin to Basil Fawlty whacking his car repeatedly with a branch after deciding "enough is enough!"

He's a glory hunter. Also he hasn't replied to my comment (cannae mind which thread it's in) about whether he thinks he knows more about football than a supporter of a lower league team cos he supports a bigger team than them.

I wish I shared your optimism! Shakhtar spent around £40 million recently and Celtic have never found going to Portugal easy (Lisbon 67 aside :P ). Whilst our home form in CL is tremendous, equally our away record is horrendous. Im just not convinced we have the strentgh in squad at present.

Having released a couple more players, whilst not replacing them, Strachan will be reliant on the same group of players on both the home and European front.

Whilst im not convinced on the standard of player that WS has brought in (before transfer deadline) he has at least strengthened his squad for both fronts.

Both Celtic and Rangers will be doing well with 3rd spot in their groups and anything beyond that would be a great achievement....IMO

Why can't both the old firm be in the hunt for a place in the last 16? Celtic did it last season againest all the odds and they have improved.

Ok, both clubs will be up againest it but going into a Champions League campaign with bad though could only mean losing. Both Celtic and Rangers have to go into every match - at the San Siro and Nou Camp looking to win and not lose any goals. Take each game as it comes and hope at the end they can mustard 10 points (or MORE) which normally means last 16 in the Champions League. Forget that the clubs and the players they face are classed as the World's best and believe they you can beat them, cos they can. Both Rangers and Celtic have it in them to beat the best on the right day, right game, right time.

C'mon Scotland and C'mon Rangers and Celtic - do Scotland and Scottish football proud!

think if celtic or rangers go out and into the uefa cup they could actually have a good chance of winning it. but i think celtic will advance from the group stage and rangers 4th or 3rd if they get lucky

I think Celtic are capable of getting through their groups. Mainly because they're much more solid at home than others. You can rely on away wins from some of the other games, and that will help Celtic a lot if they can achieve their best at Parkhead. As for away results, it's something that I'm sure they've been working on.

1-1 at Spartak was already an improvement.

As for Rangers ... I don't fancy their chances for progression. UEFA Cup isn't beyond them. I won't count them out completely as they have some good players at their disposal and their defence is tighter than usual.

1-1 at spartak was lucky, and winning at home on penalties even luckier. Celtic canna depend on luck results they must go out and produce them.

I felt that Celtic were VERY unlucky not to finish Spartak in normal time for the penalties.

Oh and that wasn't really luck. Celtic hit FAR superior penalties. That's how they went through. Spartak just completely misfired.

But spartak were the superior team over the 120 minutes....you can;t deny that....penalties is a crap shoot.

They might have played superior football but it led to nothing. That's why they couldn't score. Because quite simply, they didn't have it in them. Celtic SHOULD have scored right off the bat, and missed numerous great chances to do so. They had far more clear cut chances and that's what you need to have to win games.

This must say something about how well organized Celtic were. Not allowing Spartak to hit them where it hurts while at the same time causing some real damage to Spartak.

If a team managed by the Sainted Martin O'Neill had your heroes Henrik Larsson, Didier Agathe, Lubo Moravcik et al in it and they had twenty (or more) chances in a match, how many would they score in your opinion?

And against a Scottish team?

the point being if you are not good enough to score at home then your time in europe will be quick, which Both OF teams will soon find out.
