It would help massively IMO, if there were (1) proper match reports in the Berwickshire News, Berwick Advertiser etc.; (2) if there were proper 'next match' boxes in the papers (and since the reserves at home when 1sts aren't put it in the 1sts box!!); (3) if the reserves upcoming fixtures were announced over the tannoy at first team games; and (4) if they scrapped the silly entrance fee which must make about 2 bob and a packet of crisps, and made it free for everyone to get in. OK winning will help, but actually I think performance aren't that vital.

Granted the match report thing needs someone willing to compile and write it, but the rest just needs to existing person who does it for the 1st team to do the same with the reserves info.

However, not to take away from the fact that its a great idea, all credit to those involved in it.

I am certain if the Berwickshire News asked they could lift the reports from the Coldstream and Eyemouth websites.

On the entrance fee bit, they only charge what others in the league do, and its actually very essential to their running costs.

Surely the club could give then £1,000 for the season? Are they too tight even to do that?

Not this forthcoming season but next.As far as i know the ground where they used to play is still used by the amatuer club.

I have been contacted by Pie and Bovril regarding this thread and have been asked to clarify the answer to this.

I am heavily involved with Chirnside Football Club and I can confirm that to my knowledge no application has been or will be made to join the East of Scotland League.

Where this has orginated from I have no idea.

To put my point forward I do feel at least 5 Border Amateur A Division sides could hold there own in the EOSL1 those being Hawick Waverley, Duns Amateurs, Pencaitland, Chirnside and Leithen Rovers who had an outstanding side last year.

I take this in to comparison to the sides that Eyemouth, Hawick Royal Albert, Coldstream and Gala Fairydean have just now.

Coldstream would beat Chirnside comfortably. Your right about the other sides mentioned though...they are poor.

Why cannot Hawick Waverley be represented in the EOS.What is going on at HRA?It's time Chirnside and Duns got themselves back into the EOS as doors are opening now with Cup places up for grabs .

you cannot compare border amatuer with east of scotland, i doubt the border amatuer teams could compete week in week out with the different style of play in eos

Aye, the silky one-touch football and bursting wing play of the EOSFL would be beyond them.

You are talking of the Border Amateur League - one of the best amateur leagues in the country in terms of proffessional organisation, maybe not so great in terms of quality of play perhaps. That said, teams from the BAL regularly win the SAFA South Cup, and often challenge at the latter stages of the SAFA Scottish Amateur Cup. They have an excellent website, which may contain contact details if you want to get in touch with some of the clubs:
http://www.bafl.leaguerepublic.com/ enter.do?siteid=9356376

I'm afraid the Duns v Eyemouth clash you saw must have been a friendly, as they have not met ever competitively, this being Eyemouth's first season in the BAL - and Duns likely fielded their squad players. Eyemouth are the reserve team of Eyemouth Utd, who play in the East of Scotland Football League. Greenlaw are a middling side in the middle division of the BAL, Duns are regular title winners, this season they finished second in 'A' League, and will contest the BAL equivalent of the FA Cup Final v Hawick Waverly, on Sun 27 June, 2:30pm, at Greenlaw.

Border amateur teams are just feeder teams.. no team in the border amateur could hold there own in EOS league. I know this because i have palyed both levels and its a big step up. Gala Rovers used to be rly good but lost all there players to EOS clubs, West Barns Star were a good team but again lost players to junior level. Its always goingt o happen

The current Gala Fairydean team is made up of the Old Gala Rvs team with 4 or 5 additions. Most are all local lads with a few exceptions, so to say that a team of allegedly amateur players can't hold their own in the EOS is P***!!

Whether you like it or not, There is very little difference between the Top of the Border A and the Bottom of EOS 1st and Gala have already made that transition. They are not at the Standard of the Premier obviously but that wasn't the debate, The Debate was whether a team from the Border FA could take the Step up and Gala gave done that.

The Leithen Rovers team from last year would have not looked out of place in the EOS 1st, The top teams of the Border FA are stronger than People think!

I was there...Coldstream had one shot at goal the entire game. It was one way traffic but Gala didn't have anyone who could put the ball in the net.
