Interesting question, who has the best set up in the BAL? I said earlier I thought Greenlaw were the only club with floodlights. As for basic facilities not sure if many clubs have much at all. I know Duns put up changing rooms/showers at Gavington a few years ago. Don't even know if Chirnside have any facilities or where they play. Is it still at the Crosshill? I presume Coldtream's team share at Home Park.

been to everyone but winton and gordon. all pretty average really. eyemouth, kelso, coldstream, gala and selkirk all share the facilities(not pitches) with eos teams although i think if fairydean are away rovers get the main pitch so i suppose they have floodlights too. chirnside at comrades park (at crosshill) average facilities (looks like a massive garden shed) and a pish pitch on a slope at the far end. the lasses however do a mean bacon buttie at ht ;)

Good enough for the east of scotland though.

Chirnside Amateurs play at the Primary School down the road. I take it Duns Colts share Gavinton with the first team? The only other pitch, sorry bog, in the town is the Public Park.

Interestingly when the new school opens it will have 3 self-draining full-sized pitches, including an all-weather field with floodlights. This will have adjacent changing rooms, a club room (like a big meeting room), and the fitness suite and gymnasium next door. All available for club hire. It will also feature a large indoor hall, two outdoor basketball courts, plus an assembly hall. I think the proposal for tennis courts were dropped, although there will be a 100m track.

However there is a downside. Unlike currently, where for example the rugby club second XV just roll up and use the pitch, at the new school all use of facilities will have to be rented = £££.

Surely a chance for Duns to consider EOS football if they can get in there and negotiate with the new school to use their facilities. Interesting you mention draining, for years that site has remained unused because of...............drainage problems!

Essentially, all the water from the Bog o'Duns, which the school will be built on, will with the new topography all go down into the Bluidy Burn (of battle fame, when the people of Duns won such a historic victory over rival Reivers as to make the burn run red for many days - also where Duns Dings 'A comes from, as they used the cattle beaters - 'dingers' - to frighten the enemy horses). What happens to water when it reaches the park - not their responsibility!!

You're quite right that the school could provide an outstanding centre for and East of Scotland team (I believe there is space zoned between road and pitch for 'future peripheral structures and amenities', which a stand could be classified as?) and IMO the rent rate charged by the devlopers won't be huge for regular, near-weekly usage. However, this would take some vision from the club, and if I'm betting on it they've probably not even discussed the posibility.

Sadly I agree with your last point. As I said earlier, now would be the time to be talking about this. If anyone connected to Duns Amateurs ever looks into this site, give it some thought. Asking to much................
I'm interested in your comment about the dingers, and cattle beaters. What exactly was a dinger? Was it a type of bell?

A 'dinger' was a box-like structure of animal gut and leather, with stones and pebbles inside. When shaken or beaten, it would (being of taught material like a drum), rattle ring and 'ding'.

Duns was also the site of General Leslie's encampment en route to Covenant v the English.

(On the club thing - the committee are not very imaginative as far as I know. Mainly older or thick?).

chirnside could not compete and shouldnt even think about re-applying, they have an appauling pool of players of which only one or 2 can be called "ok" and by "ok" I mean can kick a ball without falling on thier backsides..... End Of Story!

Chirnside could beat Hawick Eyemouth and one or two others in head-to-head and in the league table.

2 times out of 10. With 7 or 8 wins for Chirnside. They'd beat Hawick 19 out of 20, IMO.

i am not connected to chirnside nor eyemouth but am quite a regular watcher of both and hibee's spot on. thats probably why at the start of every new season eyemouth's manager tries to entice some of the chirnsides players to warner park and i think No9 knows this all to well

TBF not many of them go, or if they do they don't often stay. Weekly gubbings are bad for recruitment.

What are the crowds for our reserves now? I've not been since the League Cup matches, when we got about 40-50-60 each time. I guess with worse weather/bigger defeats they're reducing?

what was the idea behind the reserves ?. i kinda thought (1) to give injured 1st team players the chance to regain some kind of fitness ( although haynesey never lost an ounce) after injury without having to arrange friendlies. (2) to keep 1st team squad players who's arses are sore from sitting on the bench, ticking over (3) to get 1 or 2 of the young laddies into the 1st team set up (bench at least) over the season. as far as i was concerned results should not be that important. before u say, i know winnings a good habit to have, it breeds confidence but not essential. so 40, 50, 60 is shite, especially when u take the players familys into account. whats the 1st team get ? 400 to say 600 depending on away fans. surely then the reserves should be getting at LEAST a ton. Only a certain amount of hard core fans (and drunkard de-generates) travel away. so when the "dream team" are away it's shopping wi the missus is it ? f**k that, pay the 3 bar u tightwads and support the future

Evening HTB,

Firstly, thanks for the comment on the other topic re: being sad gets on their PC's on a Saturday night. I tried to post a comment on the Berwick Forums with that as a comment, but it seemed to vanish into the ether, so I let it go. Is it there now?

Anyway, back to your questions. Like you, we thought it was going to be a mix of some of last years 19's, new incomers and the fringe 1st team players. As a parent said to me at last weeks Civil Service Strollers game. If our squad has 21 players, and the team can only name 16, then why aren't the remaining 5 being made available to the Reserves? it would help our youngsters. We tend to only get one playing. With the exception of my son, Jason Inglis, Dougie Brydon and Kevin Cairnie, the rest of the "reserves squad" are all 2nd year 19's. As said above, the older more "experienced" 1st team players would help the young ones out.
Regarding crowds. At last weeks games (granted it was in Edinburgh), I recognised 6. Myself, Graham Smith's dad, Jason Inglis parents and Andrew McLeans parents. We generally get Gibby's parents, but they are currently on holiday (and from Gala). Apologies if I've missed anybody out, but this is the general numbers we get. Granted the home crowds are slightly more, but not by a great deal. I made a post similar to this at the turn of the year on the Berwick Forum site. Replies then were of the basis "Well they keep losing, so why bother". When my boy played with Royston BC in Edinburgh at Under 16's, we regularly got 50-100 (100 maybe excessive) people watching. Mind you, they were a fantastically successful team. 12/16 went pro-youth @ Under 17's.
Anyway, back to the point in hand. I honestly don't know how you get the locals to attend.
