Ray Allan was never a substitute in a competitive game. I will be able to give you an answer shortly though, and you're not far wrong.

The first sub keeper used was Colin Scott of Rangers on 25/9/93. Bruce Alexander of Brechin came off the bench at Love Street for Brechin on the 28th of September... beaten by 3 days!

A little bit different but, during the 1930's there was a game between Scotland & England and the Scotland goalie got injured after about 5 minutes. So not to disappoint the travelling fans, they asked someone in the crowd to play in goal, luckily enough the Clyde F.C. goalkeeper was there and he played the rest of the match!

Was out with Bruce Alexander tonight and he says he came on as a sub on tuesday The 21st of sept against Dunfermline so it was the midweek before Colin Scott came on.

On Off The Ball wasn't there mention of one twin replacing another in goals before the days of substitutes?

Not strictly on topic, but quirky all the same. QP lost a penalty up at Elgin this year and the goalie, Neil Parry, was booked for complaining about it. He saved the spot kick, but the linesman said he had come off his line. Ref ordered a retake and Parry went tonto and was sent off. QP only had a youth team goalie with them, and sent him on after a wee reshuffle for his debut. He saved the retake with his first touch of the ball in senior football.
