88 people took part. 16 currently left and I am the chip leader at the break. Arrrrgg i can't take much more of this. Hope it doesn't go on to long. Started at 22:30. If finished b4 3am I will be lucky.

Pointless thread, but just trying to calm myself.

Anyone here ever won a big tournement before?

I play online with Victor Chandler. I limit myself to $1 and ocassionally $2 dollar tournaments. Won half a dozen, usually I can get into the top 3 which if you're playing with 8 other people guarantees you back something.

I'm hopeless at playing poker in real-life though!

EDIT: So no, I haven't won any big tournaments! ;)

I've considered entering the feeders for the WSOP but haven't yet. I'd probably get cleaned out.

Never finished above 30th in a tournament (with 700-1000 entrants.) I only play Limit now in any case.

I won about $2000 over the summer playing a mixture of cash games and tournaments. I normally played $3 rebuy pot limit with around 400 entering. The reason I played pot limit as if you make a mistake you will still have chips to play with.

Once you get to the final table in an online tournament the blind continually go up and it can end up as a crap shoot. Basically meaning it comes down to luck.

Cash games are easy as you just have to be able to be patient and not stay at the same tables. Play several different poker rooms as well so you don't get recognised. You then just sit with the weaker players and take their money.

People's mistakes are going straight into playing no limit without knowing the theory and mathematical odds behind the running of the cards. Limit allows you to just play cards, and if you can't win money on that you should give up.

I actually have a heads up knock out tournament tonight in Aberdeen should be a good laugh and alotof fun.

Anyone got a bad beat story?

This is a cracker:

$10 rebuy tournament down to the last 18.

I was sitting under the gun (one place after big blind) and was dealt Cowboys (KK). I flat called, and someone raised 4 x big blind. There was one caller. It came to me, as I was lowstack (person with the lowest chips) I raised over the top to go all in.

Both others followed suit with all ins. I thought I was fucked as one of them must have had aces.

They both showed pocket Jacks. I laughed. I was just under 96% favourite to win the hand. A split pot overall was 0.25%, a split pot between just under 2% and they had just over 1% chance of winning individually by hitting a flush.

FLOP:

789

TURN:

2

RIVER:

10

My brand new laptop was about to get a horsing out the fucking window. If I had won that hand I would have been moved upto 4th. I still came away with about $90, but would have been good enough to finish in the top 5.

I'm about £600 up for the year, best wins were winning a £10 tournament with 190 runners, picking up £580; winning a $50 tournament with about 36 runners, picking up about $600; best live finish was at Gutshot in Farringdon, finished 5th in a £30 re-buy picking up £400.

Worst bad-beat;
30 players left out of about 270, I'm about 13th.
Dealt AA, player in about 8th position goes all-in, I call, they turn over 75 off-suit.
Flop comes 7, 5, something, turn 7, flop something. Beaten by a full house.
The player who beat me is a pro, but that incident is the most convinced I've ever been that there is an element of fixing in online poker.

Certainly do, came third tonight our of 10 which wasn't too bad, pocketed £25 for my troubles. Chip leader had amassed a healthy stack and myself and another player were roughly equal. He went all in with K-8 unsuited and i had to call with J-Q of hearts, King stood firm though.

Happy with a small profit. Regarding the casino, i've been to the International a couple of times, once as part of a work night out. For the work night out the casino provided dealers and offcourse we played in their purpose built poker room with plush tables etc.

Played a bit of roulette and blackjack in there too, it's a good (but most of the time expensive) night out. :)

£10 buy in, although there won't be another game for a few weeks as every is going home for Christmas.

There's a £10 rebuy in the International Casino every Wednesday night. You have to be a member obviously to play (membership is free) however expect to have to rebuy as it's loose and offcourse to win the £500+ first prize expect to be there until 3-4 a.m. :)

First hour, the usual guys that go are seiously loose, bordering on poor play most of the time. They have player-dealers so you don't have to deal.

I have been told that they are a few muppets that go. But with me in school Thursday mornings I can't go yet.

Swampy: Did you ever play that 250 raked hands on Betfred?

No, I didn't, I'm on Golden Riviera (a Ladbrokes skin) at the moment and I'm about to start clearing a Party bonus. I'll return to Betfred in the new year at some point.

Do any casinos around the west of Scotland play Limit ring games? Obviously almost all tournament play is NL but for just sitting and playing, I only play Limit.

I wouldn't imagine you would get many limit games in a casino Swampy. In a specialised Poker room you would. How is limit poker treating you? Once you are doing fine on that go onto pot limit. I find pot limit alot easier to get money from as generally one mistake doesn't cost you. Therefore if you are a strong player you will have alot more chances.

As for Betfred don't worry about it. Its a pretty poor card room, but its the only onbe that works on Uni computers!

I have been back playing cash games at the 0.25/0.50 level. I cleared £50 quid yeaterday. But as its that close to Christmas that money is getting yoinked back. I made $60 in the one hand. JJ. Raised 3 x BB. I got re raised double my bet. I called. Two callers. Flop J 7 K. I bet into the raiser after the flop to induce a massive re raise. he went all in. And I caled. He showed K J.

Now that player is just too damn greedy and hence why he lost all his money. He never once considered what hand I could have been playing.

Any other poker tournaments in casinos in either Aberdeen or Edinburgh? Preferably £20 - £50 freezeouts, although I'll consider anything.
I'm specifically looking for tournaments between 22nd Dec and 3rd Jan, as that's when I'll be back home.

When I played in Vegas at a small card room (at the Sahara) it was 2/4 limit, poor game that even I could win at. I'll go back sometime. Limit is treating me very well as I've been reading a lot, invested in Pokertracker and started recording stats. I'm only playing very, very low limits (.05/.1 and .1/.2) while I work my way up but after 3,395 hands I'm getting 7.38BB/100, which is around my target. More importantly I think my game is improving.

I'll only switch to Pot Limit after I do a whole bunch of reading on it, and at the moment I forsee at least another six months of microlimits while I improve.

I've only ever played in 1 tournament, of about 60 people. I came about 20th; I was raging when I got put out. I put a guy all in with KQ I think it was, it was a decent hand anyway.

He called me and showed his cards...He had 48 unsuited. I'm thinking 'why would you ever call with that? Oh well, your loss, my gain'.

Then, on the flop, Q pops out. By this point I'm giving it 'aww, unlucky mate', and having a good laugh on the inside.

Then, on the river and turn, 2 4s appear. :barf

Depends on his chip count. If he has massive chip stack and I thought I had two active cards id call with anything also. K Q Vs 4 8 isnt a massive favourite about 40% of the time it will lose.

I don't know how you can put up with Limit I hate it. But sticking to theory only, you can make a profit at it.

There is a small measure of psychology involved in limit but it's precisely because I can stick to numbers that I prefer it online.

In live play I'd have fewer reservations with PL/NL but online I'm just not into it.

I went all in last night with 11 people to go. Had a pair of aces in my hand. The other guy who went all in had a pair of kings in his hand. As fate would have it, another King came out on the flop. Arrrrggggg

I was at the poker tournament at the International Casino in Aberdeen last Monday. It’s a £20 buy in and you can re-buy for the first hour and a half.Ended up winning so got £600

Going again tonight to try my luck

I've played a few of them, i don't usually rebuy and never get far. In truth there are some bad players making horrific calls that makes it difficult to win.

What time did you finish at? That's another problem. :)
