How Do?

Were we as shite as you were led to believe?

I reckon to go South of the Border and gain our first three points on the road of the season, would not be too bad a result.

Comments?

First half was pretty uneventfull but even. Berwick scored a decent goal (toe poke) and led at half-time.

Second half we changed from 4-4-2 to 3 at the back and 3 in the middle. We dominated the second half and thouroughly deserved to win. Could have won by more if scotty had his shooting boots on instead of his baffies.

The goals. 1. Good switch by adam out right to cummings. He drove forward and played a square pass to rodgers just outside the box. He sclaffed his shot a bit but henna got a touch and diverted it in.
2. Excellent free-kick from adam whipped in and a good header home by mcleod.

Good days work and a great 3 points.

Only down side was the excellent higgins limping off again near the end.

Not in hiding just got other things to do in life. Anyway onto yesterday we played ok and should have been two or three up at half time. Very confident going into half time as quite frankly Montrose looked gash apart from Rodgers pace and movement which sent our defence all over the place.
Robertson has taken a fair bit of stick on here from various fans over the season but what he performed at half time should be classed as a miracle. The first goal i thought was offside as i thought how the hell can someone score from a free header six yards out with no defenders near him the second a great set piece that Mcleod stuck away with his head, apart from that Michie missed a few, Rodgers pace and movement was awesome and was a constant pain in the arse. Gary Wood put one over the bar from ten yards out when it looked easier to score a couple of minutes from the end for what would have have been a fair result over the 90 mins but as it was Rose held and deserved their win on producing the best 45 minutes i have seen this year. They will be there at the end of season if they can reproduce it week in.
We need to stick chances away shove Gary up front and get big Tom back as he has not done much wrong and is looking better each time. Bench hayes as he is not mobile enough and give the lad from Hearts a shot with Gary. Here endeth the Sunday sermon from the vm.

:o :o :o

I think vm has had too much vodka.

We looked far from ok - we were appalling from beginning to end and that seems to be the case in vitually every game this season. The only time we have looked anything approaching good was when reduced to ten men against Stenny (I missed the Dumbarton and Elgin games).

I can see what we are trying to do and somtimes the passing and possession is good.

Yesterday, though, was dire - it was passionless and clueless. Every home game this season with the Stenny exception has felt like a pre-season friendly, we start slow and never seem to get going.

I know we've had injury problems but it doesn't explain everything. Swanson gets better with every game he doesn't play.

I can't understand playing Wood at the back yesterday if Britton is fit.

Nor can I understand not playing Manson either in midfield or at right back. Shand at right back doesn't seem up to it in comparison. I like Noble in midfield but Campbell isn't good enough at left back so would move him back there.

Haynes is too slow this season and McCallum hasn't had a chance - but to be honest the service to the forwards has been shocking except when Noble can bang in a cross or a deadball. Though again yesterday virtually every corner failed to beat the first man.

We need Wood up front, Manson at right back, Noble at left back, Gary Greenhill given a chance and we need to use the width (but not via Police Car please), even keeper is a concern as Gary O has been inconsistent.

After a quarter of the season I think it's safe to say that this is a pretty dire 3rd division and that any of 8 teams could go up, and every one capable of beating everyone if they have a good day.

Substitute Gary for Gareth and it's last season all over again :(

At least nobody else is running away with it.

I think 14 points may be too much for Elgin to make up for play off place and 19 too much for title! But other than that I should have said any of the nine could go up.

By all accounts Elgin don't look any worse than others.

The only consolation is it's wide open!!

I don't know what game you were watching first half but it was a different game from me. Thought it was 50/50 but berwick took their chance so fair enough.

Second half there was only one team ever going to win and they did. For me the difference was Robertson changing from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2. John Adam was stuck out on the right wing first half and done OK on the ball but looked uncomfortable. Henna and Donachie were in the middle and were constantly getting caught in possession or wayward with their passing. After the break Adam came into the centre to join them and Cummongs rattled on down the right wing. We looked a totally different team. Adam gives us composure and a bit of creativity in the middle and Cummings is happy attacking down the touchline. Both these players combined to create our equaliser. Our winner was all about a quality delivery from Adam after a short free-kick was botched by Stirling and Napier. We caught a break when the ref ordered it to be taken again.

Rodgers movement is a menace to teams but if he could pass the ball 6 yards we would score more goals. He suffers fron Centre-forward syndrome, he is incredibly greedy and plays for himself. Having said that I'm glad he's in our team coz he chases lost causes all day long and turns punts down the park into good passes.

A word for Craig Higgins. Surely the best Centre Half in this league. He has played with an injury all season but is so reliable and consistent. I trust him more than any other player to deal with danger. He limped of again yesterday and I feel if we lose him (to injury) a big hole will appear in our defence. I hope the two week break does him good.

Overall, I think we'll be there come the business end of the season.

I saw us up at Elgin, and thought we were garbage. We ground out three points, but were outplayed for most of the match. Whilst I'm sure the players and coaching staff are giving their all, if the performance at Elgin is termed as half decent, as the general consensus seemed to be (dominated the second half, Garry Wood played really well, Haynes getting back into the swing of things, were some of the individual comments on the thread from last week), then i can't imagine some of the bile that has been served up at our poorer performances.
Garry is not half the player he was 4 years ago, Haynes looked out of place for 89 minutes (although i admit it was a good finish for his goal), and we were marginally better than Elgin in the 2nd half - but certainly nowhere near dominating.

Having said all that, maybe this bout of reality is because I was relatively sober.
The most worrying thing is that the standard in the Ryman Premier seems to be higher than the Scottish 3rd this season, it has been the other way round for about the past 5 years now.

You are absolutely right, Stenny were awful against us but the scoreline would suggest otherwise. I think Dumbarton will win the league with Queens and East Fife being the also rans. As for the rest, there is very little between them and credit to the Shire for the recent performances and results which the fans long deserve.

Im really glad to see Montrose doing well! Means the derbies should have a bit more of an edge. But in reality, with the money you've spent, you should be doing better than us! Roll on Links Park in November with hopefully near 2,000 attendance (if were both top of the league).

A very poor game and the best team won as they wanted it more. They were the ones going for it not us.

Don't care who the also rans are, but I hope you're right about the Sons winning the league. We're only mid-table just now, but I'd expect us to be up in the top places at the end of the season.

I fully agree in Higgins we have if not the best one of the best centre halves in the league. Although if he is out for a few weeks I feel Chris Tawse will be more than adequate cover. After a few dodgy outings at the start of the season he has come in to his own and is developing in to a great player. Also a mention to Chris McLeod who was slated by Morton & Raith Rovers fans at the start of the season, granted Arbriath fans stuck up for him. He has been solid and is a no nonsense defender who has formed a great partnership with Higgy.

Steady on there. That might be misinterpreted.

But you're right - if we can both avoid a collapse (imminetly expected) then the next derby might be a bit tasty.

I prefer the New Year venue to be Links Park so I doubt an November fixture there would mobilise all latent Lichties to the same extent.

Talking of payments, was just looking at the AFC accounts for the past 18 months and was shocked at how little we seem to be paying manager and players.

The worrying thing is he's now started scoring goals for Mo which was what he did fairly regularly in the latter part of his stay with us.

Well, if i'm reading it correctly for the 18 month period covered - it was more than a year because we transformed into a private company, wages of players and checkers (gate?) - 130,000, manager/trainers/groundsman/treatment/scouts salaries and expenses - 36,000. It works out at around 2,000 per week in total. Must be way above Shire with their 10 quid weekly wage to players but overall, surprisingly modest but then again we're still in debt thanks mainly to Angus Council

I was surprised to see transfer and signing fees - 2,000 - we must be getting delusions of grandeur like Montrose.

Were not still in debt! The Hibs game and the share issue made sure of that.

Were currently right on the borderline of being in the red/ black.

I was hoping after this year's share issue that was the case but haven't heard how this was presented at the recent AGM.

The detailed Profit and Loss mentions bank interest paid of around 7,000 so that could be servicing the overdraft. But the account goes back to 1st dec 2004 so maybe it has been cleared

Something for the MAD website to elucidate I think.
