5-5 thriller is on the cards, has all the makings of a classic.

Cowden score goals but let a good few in so anything less than 4 goals in the game and I'll be surprised.

There is no team in Scotland from the old firm down who will put five past our first pick defence. Have you looked at the 'goals against' column in the league table?

Morton will bring 400 maximum..
Cowden will have 800 maximum
Add in 287 neutrals and the crowd will be 1487.

Cowden have scored more goals than any team and Morton have lost fewer thann anyone. 3-3?

I think you will find Morton bring at least double that. I will be surprised if the home fans outnumber the Away support. The only thing I agree on is that there will likely be quite a few neutrals.

There is no way Morton will only bring 400 fans, like what has already been mentioned there could be double that, I would also be disappointed if Cowden don't break the 1000 mark themselves, after all they have proved in the past the can pull a decent enough crowd for big games, I reckon the crowd for this one should be around the 2000 mark give or take a hundred or so.
Looking forward to this game and I'm under no illusions it will be tough, but they way the two teams like to play football the fans should be entertained.

I agree, there's no way you'll only bring 400 fans. I'm sure we will manage a minimum of 700 (nearly 500 yesterday for Peterhead) plus some neutrals. Thanks for restoring my faith in Morton posts! :P

Can't see any way the crowd will be lower than 1500 on Saturday, in fact I think it will beat the 1530 that was at the cup game against Falkirk. Yesterday was our lowest league crowd of the season 588, the 2 previous games games against Alloa and Brechin were 700+, can only put the lower crowd yesterday down to it being a Sunday game. If Morton bring their promised huge support and the neutrals turn out as well, the 1530 should be beat!

I'm not that bothered about the crowd but I'd be surprised if we bring fewer than 700.

Crowd-spotting is fun for playing against mid-table sides but I'm far more concerned about the result in this encounter. This is a huge game for both sides, and I think an away win against Cowden would go some way towards showing that Morton now have the bottle to go up.

I actually fancy Cowden to win this one. Given though last season that Partick humped us in the first game at Firhill and we ended up not only getting the better of them over the 4 games, we finished way ahead of them. I can see the same happening here. Although Cowden being peggd back to 2-2 against the league's worst team so far gives me hope that Morton can go and win this with some style. We'll soon see.

Good post, Swampy, but I'm not sure about the logic of your final point. Surely whether you have the bottle to go up will be tested in the run-in towards the end of the season when the presure is on? Having said that, I think Morton will win the championship this season - you're a strong, full-time outfit playing attractive football.
For Cowden, who knows? When we won the Third Division Championship, the #1 aim was to avoid relegation. It still is. Last time we were in the Second Division, we avoided relegation narrowly in our first season; in the second season we started off really well - then ended up being relegated. We've a better team now, but a lot will depend on two key factors (1) How long Mixu stays (2) how many of our best players we lose in the transfer window. These are simply the facts of life. In the meantime, we're enjoying watching exhilarating football. We're not afraid of any team in the league. Whoever wins on Saturday, it promises to be a really good game of football.

I said it would go some way, not all the way. It's not just a going-up thing, it's a general pressure thing, and going away to the 2nd place team, with high expectations for Morton to strengthen their position at the top, is the kind of hurdle at which we've fallen so many times.

I also think we'll win the title but I also know to expect the unexpected, hence not being at all confident about Saturday :D

And I agree, it's shaping up to be an entertaining game regardless of the outcome, both teams are in good form and like to go forward.

OK maybe I exaggerated a bit, but I remain confident that no one in this league will take five off us and I reckon there are very few in Scotland who could.

Anyway, Saturday is a 'must get a result' for both teams. Last season we lost the early league game to Gretna and never recovered to even have a sniff of winning the title.

To be honest, Cowdenbeath remind me of us in season 2003/2004 - the season when we blew a fourteen point lead at Christmas. In the first half of the season we had loads of scores like yours on Saturday - winning 6-4 over Arbroath springs to mind. We leaked goals but it did'nt matter because Williams, Weatherson & Co would always score more. Then at Xmas we lost our scoring touch but continued to leak goals and the rest is history.

I don't by the way, expect Cowdenbeath to do anything like that but there is no doubt they lose their share of goals. If you look at the league table Raith and Forfar who are fourth and third bottom have conceded fewer goals.

Every good team is built on a solid defence and that's the difference Jim McInally has brought since he arrived - he has made us very hard to beat and now this season, we are scoring freely also. Its a good combination.

I think both sets of fans just want to see a good game between two decent teams on Saturday. I would make Morton slight favourites because there is more experience in the side compared to Cowden, but hopefully we can match that with our enthusiasm. My only wish is that Cowden put on a good show, not just for the home fans, but the Morton fans as well, because in our two recent meetings we've not impressed in those games and have received a few negative comments from Morton fans. Hopefully the real Cowden will turn up on Saturday and show that we can play a bit.

There is no doubt that Cowden can play a bit, the proof is in the goals you lads have already scored, I'm looking forward to the game because I know Cowden will come at us, they will play football, they will not sit back and they will go out to win, in my mind thats whats football is all about, win lose or draw on Saturday I hope its a cracker of a game.

Likewise as previously stated i dont think we will take any fewer than 700.

Looking forward to an exciting game from 2 teams playing very good attacking football. Could be a complete goalfest if there is early goals, or maybe the 2 managers will be wary of each others attack and start the game cautiosly.

As i have said before, Cowden go straight out to attack, with an excellent attacking formation which is a joy to watch. If Morton win the league this year then i hope it's a good attacking team like Cowden who come up with us.

I Think the crowd will be around the 1400-1500 mark, I expect a close game but cowden MUST tighten up their defense too many errors sometimes. I hate to say it but i think our GK is our weak link but im not going to be too hard on the guy coz he is young and at times has saved us with some crucial saves.Again i do think Morton will be too strong for cowden but it aint the end of the world if cowden lose this one there is a lot of games left for morton to fcuk it all up :P - seriously Morton will win the league no doubt i just hope we can keep picking up points and stay in contention at least or stay in top 4 that would be a magnificent season for me.

I obviously do hope Morton win the league but after what I have saw of Cowden this year, the way the approach each game and how they want to play football I'm hoping they win the play-offs and go up with us, Cowden have gained a lot of respect from Morton fans for the way their team plays, it's a pleasant change when a team comes to Cappielow and had a proper go.

good luck to Cowden

The Play-Offs are a crap idea in such a small league - but I dont think many Morton fans blamed them. We knew the score at the start of the seasn and Peterhead beat us over 180 mins- fair play to them. At least we made the Play offs !!

Now that we dont have the Mileston circus in the league I dont think we will need the Paly offs. Somehow I dont think Raith will have to worry about the play offs either, unless it's to find out who will be joining the 3rd div next season

We shall see, I think this league is wide open and you will end up blowing it again

With a decent manager who know's what this Raith squad will do and if you blow it and we are near the top of the table we will wave to you on our way to the top.

Have to disagree, after this game there are still 90 points up for grabs for both teams!! If I remember correctly we lost at Firhill by 3-0 and still not only got the better of Thistle, we also finished well ahead of them. Not only that, over the season did we not match Gretna in head to head games, being one of only two teams to beat them?
