Tommy O`Hara one of my all time fave Queens players played for Washington Diplomats in whatever the league in the USA was known as in the late 70s. A fine player.

Colin Cramb played for Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Eredivisie in the 2001/02 season. Mark McNally signed for Keflavik in Iceland in 2000 although I'm not sure if he played for them.

Didn't Pittman also play in Canada and Hong Kong? There was definately a Dundee player of the mid 90's who did- and I'm sure it was him- *goes and check soccerbase* -
no mention of those countries on there but there is a 4 year gap between Partick and Stenny.

Think Pittman had two years in the MLS then came back to Scotland, he was definately already at Linlithgow Rose before his 3 games at Stenny in 2000.
Maybe you're thinking of Gary McKeown from Arsenal who ended up in Hong Kong - don't know if he was Scottish or English though...
Have we had these? Mark Fotheringham (Freiburg, Aarau), Ian McCall (Hong Kong, Hafnarfjördur(?)), Brian Welsh (Valur).
Also there have been loads in Finland: Gerry Creaney, Martyn Corrigan, Stuart Callaghan...etc. There is a really good link for players in the Finnish League here for anyone who is interested in finding more.

Doesn't Peter Canero of Killie and Dundee Utd fame currently play in the MLS?

Might have been mentioned already - Alex Williams and Stewart Petrie played in Oz. Think Petrie is still there.

Following Scots currently playing in the A-League in Australia (some have been mentioned previously);
Central Coast Mariners..Stuart Petrie
Also football manager Lawrie McKinna and head coach Ian Ferguson
Melbourne Victory..Grant Brebner (scored their winning goal last Thursday in the 88th min)
Also coach Ernie Merrick
New Zealand Knights (don't ask me, I don't know what they're doing there either) Scot Gemmill
Queensland Roar..Stuart McLaren (ex-Stirling Albion), Simon Lynch (ex-Dundee & Celtic)
Sure there are many more in the State Leagues and also have been numerous others in the A-League/NSL over the years.

Peter Canero was released by the New York Red Bulls today actually. He was pretty crap for them. 2 starts and 7 sub appearances this season.
Atlanta Silverbacks play in the USL 1st Division which is the second tier league.
John Spencer retired a few years ago and is an assistant with Houston Dynamo who just recently won the MLS championship.
Also there's a David McGuire who has been playing university football in New Hampshire that is currently on trial with Aalesunds in Norway who have just been promoted to their top flight.
There are no Scots currently playing in any of the top three leagues in the States now that Canero has been released.

Isnt Paul Dalglish still at Houston? I think hes also been at Modena in Italy, but never quite got round to playing.
And I guess he's long retired now but was there a US internationalist called Dominic Kinnear who was kinda Scottish? I think he had a trial with St Johnstone?
Also I was reading somewhere that 'Pele' Paterson enjoyed a sojourn in Hong Kong, Australia and Japan, where he became the first European to play there, at Yomiuri Nippon.
Does anyone know if the Swedish based goalie Lee Baxter is a Scot? I think his dad is, he used to manage South Africa, AIK Solna etc.

Yep, he is.

forgot all about Dalglish. He's still there and Kinnear is his manager with Spencer as his assistant. Kinnear was born in Glasgow but raised in California. Kinnear earned 56 caps for the US and actually captained them against Scotland in 92. Played his club football mostly in the States and spent some time in Mexico.

Just found this thread - some of these may have been mentioned before:
John Mackay (ex St Johnstone) played for Toronto in the NASL in the late 70s. So did Jimmy Bone.
Jim Fleeting (now Scotland U21 Boss) played for Tampa Bay Rowdies around the same time.
Ally Graham (ex everyone) played in Finland around 1999/2000 for Tampere.
Jim McSherry (ex Ayr and Kilmarnock) played for Pezoporikos in Cyprus in the early 1980s.
Stevie Kean (ex Celtic and recently Fulham Assistant Manager) played in Portugal for a number of years - posibly with Coimbra.
Didn't Paul McGrillen have a brief spell in Sweden with a team called Cafe Latte or something similar - maybe not top division?
Jimmy Calderwood played for many years at the top level in Holland. His sidekick Jimmy Nicholl played in Canada - also at Toronto?
Derek Spalding (ex Hibs) played in the NASL for a Canadian side - maybe Vancouver Whitecaps?
Tony Glavin (ex Hamilton) and brother of Ronnie played in the NASL.
Peter Dwyer (ex Shire and Alloa) played in the top level in Australia for Brisbane, as did ex-St Mirren defender Ron McQuilter.
Ally Dick (ex Spurs and Alloa) played for Ajax and also for someone in Greece.
Stevie Paterson (Peterhead manager) played in Japan for several years.

Jim Tolmie played for Lokeren 1981-83, not sure whether they were in the Belgian top flight then.

Ex Dunfermline player Lee Bullen has played for Wollongong Wolves (Australia?), Kui Tan (Hong Kong), Sun Hei (Hong Kong), South China (Hong Kong) and Kalamata (Greece).
He's now captain of Sheffield Wednesday.

Didn't Jamie Fullarton have a spell abroad? France, was it? It's in my head for some reason.
I've just started flicking through my European Football Yearbooks and see Lee Robertson had a decent spell at IK Start in Norway (8 goals in 16 starts) back in 1996.
If the Republic of Ireland counts there were a few over there in 96/97 (John Hewitt and Les Fridge at Dundalk, Ian Gilzean at Sligo Rovers, Alan Sneddon and Steve Archibald at Home Town Everton)
