essentially, we are a a bunch of Liverpool fans, who basically travel all over watching the mighty reds. however, this season, as a bit of a novely, we have decided to sort of adopt a Scottish third division team to support for the season. what we are planning to do, is hire a coach otr two, and head up to watch "our team" this season.
Where we could do with your help in all of this is deciding who our team will be. there are a few rules, they cant play in Blue, they cant have United as part as their name, and they must not be from a large City.
we would like somewhere friendly, with decent boozers and decent craic.
any help and ideas are most welcome.

Were the world records holders of the biggest score EVER, 36-0 against Bon Accord in 1885 in the Scottish Cup.
Were also the closest side to the sea in Britain.

You support Liverpool, watch them.
edit to include; sorry if these appears rude, but it's honest.

no, its fair enough response tbh, buti'm sure an extra couple of hundred fans through the turnstiles once or twice a year might come in handy.
and i do watch Liverpool, home and away, its more of a day out combined with a bit of football and a bit off craic

It's proberly the smallest city you'll ever visit (20,000 people) and has plenty of good places to drink.
If your adopting a scottish team, why bother just crossing the border n heading for the central belt, make it worthwhile and head all the way north to elgin and make a proper trip out of it!
We already have a group from Bolton who do a similar thing once a season.

What happens if they stop in Brechin or Dunblane en-route to Elgin then your claims are shattered

Choose Dumbarton. We have the most spectacular location at the foot of Dumbarton Rock (see below) and you could make your first visit to a testimonial for our long serving player Craig Brittain http://www.craigbrittain.co.uk/ Two decent boozers (The Rock Bowling Club and the Stags Head) within a stonesthrow and if you buy a season ticket you can get in to the pre match bar in the stadium. We were the first ever Scottish League Champions and are one of the oldest clubs in the country (third oldest in Scotland) Only 10 minutes from the M8 motorway too so no excessive travelling.

I would pick a club like Montrose, they could be the next Gretna with the investment they're getting just now and it could be a good ride following them. They're a small club thinking big, much better to go for them than one of the bigger clubs who just yo-yo up and down the leagues.
Why not try a Highland League club? They have a much better atmosphere at their games as they have a great history playing the same clubs for years.

Come to Methil! We fit all the above rules! I'm sure that all those with horse faces and shrek features could be removed for your visit!
Liverpool is a city that I visit about twice a year. Going in December for a Bunnymen gig at the Carling Academy and am awaiting the fixtures to be announced to see if I can take a game in too. Obviously, I am a right thinking person and when I visit God's country I am on the red side!
Edit to add - there are lots of Reds up here too - kinda like home but with a Scottish accent!

Ahem, Wilf, one doesn't need to be a season ticket holder to avail ones self of the pre-match bar. Just use the home turnstiles.

Joking aside, we have a young developing team, a highly able manager and an enthusiastic chairman. After years in the wilderness, we are rebuilding for the future and living within our means.
See you for the first home game. XXX

In saying that though don't dismiss the two forementioned teams. E Stirlingshire are a natural choice at the moment because they are in dire straits - they play in Falkirk which has a largish population and also has an SPL club playing in the town. Albion Rovers are from Coatbridge which is a large area but their team suffers from it's close proximity to Glasgow and the large Celtic support in the town.
Don't choose Arbroath.

Queens Park play at souless Hampden and most of their fans rush home after the game to dawn their top hat and tails, they have no interest in football and listen to Boney M (not recommended).
Stenhouemuir and Arbroath play in Maroon with Stenny being yet another plastic stadium ,meanwhile on a windy day (GUSTS OVER 5MPH) you have to take out extra life insurance and you are constantly harassed by insurance salesman as you enter the ground(not recommended).
Elgin are strange ,don't get me wrong strange can be attractive but not so the case in Elgin, where a 2 bedroomed flat is deemed a mansion and they cannot accept they are highlanders ,they obviously are ,so they are better to humour rather than support(not recommended).
Playing in a ghastly red and yellow Albion Rovers who for some reason call themselves "the wee rovers" which may seem to be justified but no one knows who the big rovers are,so it can only be deemed a ploy to gain a sympathy vote.
Other interesting facts about "the wee rovers".If you decide to follow them, please read the following facts .To gain admission to the stadium hiking boots are highly recommended, the average age of the support is 73 and junior membership is age 9- 60 and all they talk about is the war and wear driving gloves(not recommended).
Montrose play in blue and are not worth talking about(not recommended)
East Stirling do have attractions, though to unearth them a degree in history might be of use and with no disrespect, to follow Shire would not help them in anyway as sadly the entrance fee would in no way go to help the club or their players(not recommended)
So who does this leave ,why none other than the DREAM TEAM,THE HANDSOME BOYS THE GLORIOUSLY WONDERFUL BERWICK RANGERS.
Based in the north east of ENGLAND and only a penalty kick from the non qualifiers,Berwick well what can i say (ignore the rant from london based dundonian mid - table the username suits obviously the prescription frees had not kicked in when he posted)Berwick has easier access ,better facilities ,pubs clubs etc than any of our counterparts,a vast array of individuals as fans so many to mention ,the biggest plus of course is my great self ,probably themost wonderful human being since Nana Maskouriand the envy of manySo thats it BERWICK RANGERS ,best team ,best location ,best facilities ,best supporters , but who ever you chose chose well.
BERWICK RANGERS are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Arbroath - if you don't like it you are a short distance from the heady lights of Dundee
East Stirling - Falkirk is a hovel but The Shire are a team beset by off the field problems but it's very central and there are somne nice pubs in town.
Elgin - would be my first choice, make a weekend of it. Elgin is at the end of a 100 mile stretch of road that has more distilleries per mile than population.

Shire, albion rovers, montrose (lowest home support in league) or stenny
stay away from plastic stadia as theyre crap and get no atmosphere. i.e Dumbarton, east fife, Queens park (souless).
That leaves berwick (just be like watching an other english team and I thought idea was to see a scotish team), Arbroath & elgin.
Only montrose play in blue.
If I was you , I'd plump for Brechin.
