Conservative Leadership Thread

Thought it might by an idea to dedicate a thread to this for the next couple months.

Theresa May, a Remainer who crucially stayed out of campaigning, is canvassing support and will announce in next couple days.

Boris Johnson obviously expected to run and Michael Gove has backed him it seems. Though being the favourite in a Tory leadership election is never a good place to be.

Stephen Crabb has been mentioned a bit and he wrote an article yesterday, saying the party had to continue Cameron's social reform agenda. Might stand an outside chance, especially with his working class background. Ruth Davidson would also back him, who members respect.

George Freeman, life sciences minister, apparently had up to 30 MPs from the 2010/2015 intake ready to back him, but he's now declared himself out.

Other names that have been talked about are Nicky Morgan, Andrea Leadsom (a big player in the Vote Leave campaign), Liam Fox and Sir Alan Duncan.

Hope it's one of the names I don't recognise...

...cause the others are scum. Sub-human scum.

Seems as though Boris and Gove have reached out to Osborne and offered him a choice of staying chancellor or foreign sec, whilst Gove takes the other.

Surely Osborne can't carry on as chancellor after all this?!

Does BJ have enough support amongst the PCP to actually make it onto the final ballot paper?

If he can make it there, he's a shoo in

Well that's the question. There's certainly an anti-Boris sentiment amongst many MPs, but their issue is that to stop him making the ballot they'd need to back 2 other candidates which obviously splits the vote.

I would be surprised if he didn't make it, but many stranger things have happened even since Thursday so who knows?! Theresa May certainly seems to be the one best place to stop him. Perhaps the newer intake (generally more moderate) would rally around Crabb or someone similar?

I'd expect the ballot paper to have one remain candidate and one Brexit candidate. Theresa is a shoo in to be the remain candidate.

Is Crabb a Brexiteer?

Staunch remainer, which probably won't do him many favours.

I'd have to think if he made the paper it would be at Theresa's expense

With Gove backing BJ, I can't think of any Brexiteer candidates that would stop Johnson now
