I apologise if I upset anyone or for that matter if I steal ideas that I’m about to mention in the following rant. I follow junior football, Arthurlie to be exact as most people on here know, I do a radio show promoting the juniors grade because I love it. There are people at Pollok, Auchinleck, Glenafton and the likes doing much more than I and they do it because they love, as me, this grade of football.
I must ….. Why the fook have the SJFA released fixtures via a ‘hidden’ section that only match secretaries can see, who in turn posted them as fixtures only to be told it was a test?

An absolute fannyspangle of events, YES do it as a test but let the club secretary’s know about it in advance? Common sense?
The Scottish Amateur Football runs the, IMO, best social media on Twitter, they are, like the juniors, based at Hampden, so why is ours so bad?

The season starts later every year then we moan about this and that……… its down to clubs to make the change. Rather than skirt about it I will be honest, St Mirren were going to bring their first team to Dunterlie Park, it would have been the St’s first pre-season game and being local would have generated a massive crowd but the fact that junior clubs aren’t allowed to play friendlies until the third Saturday in July fooked it all up.

As far as I can see some clubs will have played two league games come October? That’s just ludicrous…. Get the sectional league cup tae fook play league games. Scrap your the Ayrshire equivalent tae….. start earlier get the Scottish rounds 1.2. and 3 done before November and start back in February.

September weekend? We aren’t in the 70;s FFS get that done away with and put a fixture list out for the ENTIRE season, yes games WILL be called off but do a fixture list and come Christmas and New Year have local derby’s, make it bigger make it better make sense.

Evening Times cup IMO should be a season opener unfurl your flag on a summers day…. League and cup winners two groups of four one game against each then the 4th placed teams play off the 3rd, 2nd the 1st contest the final…… what an opener for the season IMO.

Lots of people on here have been very, over critical of the guys in the seats of power….. not me I personally thin the likes of Tam Johnstone are doing a fantastic job, the issue is that member clubs vote for the status quo so don’t blame them when it’s your and our guys that aren’t pushing for change, but change is something we need.

So what and how do we go about changing things?

Seems to be that it's mainly the fans that want change but the clubs are either unwilling or unable to make changes

The League cup seems to be the main bone of contention to everyone I speak to with fans of super league clubs wanting it scrapped & the league started earlier as it is in the East . But the smaller clubs will never vote for this as this is their only chance of playing their more illustrious neighbours throughout the season & is a large source of income for these clubs so as the saying goes the turkeys ain't gonna vote for Christmas

So how do we go about appeasing the smaller clubs & getting the change most of the fans of the bigger clubs want???

Personally I don't think there is a middle ground where everyone will be happy so either the bigger clubs force it through with the backing of their fans or we just sit tight & get on with it

What are Arthurlie intending on doing about it, for example?

The clubs hold the power but don't seem bothered to make any sort of positive action to rally together and fix things.

Last year we supported 2 changes. To change the kick off time & the season start date. Both issues were voted down. I don't believe the season start date can be discussed this year due to the 2 year rule.

There are some clubs who want change & there are others who do not. It is extremely frustrating.

Fantastic post, but this is too much like common sense Robert. This'll never do!

I agree with most of it. The phantom fixture saga was a nonsense. All it would have took was an email to say maintenance was taking place during a certain time and not to log in during this period and if you did and fixtures were allocated to your club ignore them as they were part of the testing process.

The argument about the league cup giving smaller teams a pay day against there bigger neighbours could be removed by making these teams play a preseason friendly in alternate years. Some of the league cup games feel like friendlies with all the triallists etc.

The thing is that the so called 'bigger' teams supporters are sick fed up of the same old every year and dont go, some of the games, especially in the Ayrshire groups are kicky in..... your idea regards a pre season friendly is bang on.

Amateurs are streets ahead of the Juniors. I said the same thing on the Gaffers page on Facebook . It's blatantly obvious they don't give a f**k.

If it wasn't for the Beith and Pollok fans posting about it, you wouldn't have known there was a Final on. Not one post did I see from the SJFA promoting it.

The Amateurs on the other hand had it posted on every site constantly. A final gig at Hampden, a quality programme for a nicker, iThat's the way to do things. It was the same for the WOS.

The guys who run the Juniors couldn't give a f**k about anyone but themselves.

I've given up on the Juniors, my preferred choice is the Ammys now.

Fannyspangle is the best word I've read on here for ages !!

Liam Finnegan ex Irvine Meadow now back at Petershill used it on my junior radio show, he is a speshal boy...... wanted to know when the Peasy bus was leaving for the game against Perthshire they had to take him outside and show him Glasgow Perthshires ground half a mile up the road!

I'd follow Ladeside whatever level we are playing in & some of the guys I've met like Nugent I wouldn't have met unless it was through the juniors but it's ran appallingly . As has been alluded to amateur football is better ram. Seen all the amateur fixtures out already & we won't know ours to the agm whenever that is . Personally if we left the juniors now I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest whereas 10 years ago I would have never contemplated that thought

Why cant clubs demand change simple really. If they refuse to listen then threaten them with strike and nobody full filling fixtures but do it through a national newspaper who love a good story where fat cats are getting hung out to dry

Clubs won't demand change as opposed to can't. Why won't they? That's a rhetorical question.
