League Team of the Season

Recommended Posts

East Fife Supporters' Trust produce the EFFC match programme,The Bayview and for the last programme of the season planned to collate the views of all 2nd Division managers and put together a "best of " selection.

The article below is what appeared in the programme and the reason why eight out of ten clubs/managers decided not to reply, despite several requests is open to debate.

Two selections don't really tell a great deal but maybe there is enough here for a bit of discussion.

SPFL TEAM OF THE SEASON

The original intention of this article was for The Bayview to invite all League Two Managers to select their team of the season but excluding their own players. Unfortunately eight of the ten club’s administration or managers did not reply despite several invitations.

Although a team of the season survey will not work with two replies The Bayview would like to thank Gary Naysmith of East Fife and Stuart McLaren of Stirling Albion for their time and effort and are pleased to list below their individual selections and some thoughts on the season.

Gary Naysmith                                                                  Stuart McLaren

BEST AND WORST PERFORMANCE

Gary Naysmith

There have been really good performances such as Berwick 5-0 and Stirling 6-0 but the best for me in terms of importance was the 3-1 win at Elgin. I think they would have gone 5 points clear of us with a game in hand if they had won, so to put on the performance that we did that day in what was a must win game, makes it the most pleasing performance of the season for me. The most disappointing result was losing to Stirling in the cup. The performance was very good, we totally outplayed them but we just couldn't score. They beat us 1-0, then they got Cumbernauld colts and then they got Inverness. I still think we should have won comfortably that day and we would have beat Cumbernauld and enjoyed a good cup run.

Stuart McLaren

7-0 win at home to Montrose. Scored goals at key times (just before & after half-time) & took most of our chances.

6-0 loss at home to East Fife. Self explanatory.

MOST PROMISING PLAYERS

Gary Naysmith

Josh Todd at Annan is only 21 and scores goals for fun as an attacking midfielder.

Scott Ferguson at Clyde is another 21 year old player I like. He has good pace, scores goals, is really good in the air for his size and always seems to do well against us

Stuart McLaren

Nathan Austin of East Fife and Tony Ralston of Queen’s Park
