Falkirk v Morton

Recommended Posts

Given the way some of our threads have gone of late, I'm not sure I want to get involved, but here we go!

This match is massive for us, and meaningless for Morton. That only means one thing, right??

We might go into this thinking we need a big win to improve our GD depending on how Hibs get on this week, but we really need to defend better first - we've conceded 2 in our last 6 games on the bounce, which is ridiculous. Let's hope Watson or McCann are back, and at least Muirhead will be playing.

Surely we need to start McHugh ahead of Baird for this?

Houstie said on FTV that Watson is not likely to be back until the Semi Final of the PO should we get to that stage.

Not heard anything about McCann however.

Morton still in the fight for finishing 5th, I'm sure around 30k a difference between 7th and 5th.

Our squad is pushed to the limits now, players carrying injuries, suspensions to go with the out long term injured. We get Muirhead back....yaas, only to hear Vaulks is out. I felt before the March the 31st deadline, we could've got someone in on loan for midfield with us losing McGrandles to beef up the squad, I thot likewise last season also, tho in the striker department.

I fully expect Alston to sit in at right back again, something he is struggling with and we lose his good work in midfield.

I'm expecting a similar 11 to yesterday with Muirhead in for Vaulks and maybe Bob in for Baird, tho the latter is a concern. The games Bob has started, he is usually subbed around 60mins and ineffective, bring him on as a sub and.....well we know what happens.

Its gonna be a tense affair and BT sport are beaming live the nothing game at the midden

Huge game next Sunday, although they have all been huge recently.

Weird to think we'll play an away game with only 3 days notice should we finish 3rd next Sunday lunchtime.

Re the team for this, we really are down to the bare bones.

Thankfully Muirhead being back helps. Losing Vaulks is a blow though, at least he's not missing a play off game though.

Prediction? 1-0 Bairns & a crowd of around 4,500

It's not meaningless for Morton. We presently sit in 5th place. Depending on other results, we could stay there or drop as low as 7th. Difference in prize money between 5th and 7th is around £70k - a lot of money for Morton. Clearly we don't have as much at stake as Falkirk potentially have, but it's far from meaningless!

Also if Hibs lose to Dumbarton, and stranger things have happened, Falkirk with their superior goal difference will be secure in second spot so the Morton match could be meaningless to them and they might rest some players with an eye to the play offs. I agree though, that if second place is still at stake, that's a big prize. The play off system is hugely slanted in favour of the SPL side and the extra games makes getting promoted from third or fourth place a huge ask, especially for traditional tight budget/ small playing squad Championship sides.

There's surely defenders of some description in the youth setup that are worth a shot...

Finlayson at RB would be the obvious choice. Highly rated but given he's had no first team minutes yet he's unlikely to get thrown in now.

Gallagher at LB looks nearer the first team and captained Scotland u17s I think

Centre backs are Eadie and Johnson, no idea about them though

I wonder if Lee could do a job at CB?

Cant help feeling we missed the boat badly by not bringing in another body when mcgrandles got crocked. Was ample opportunity for a loan signing and yet we decided against it. Could come back to bite us. Teams doing great to fight on at the moment but you wonder how many games we can keep that up.
