What price success?

With yet another League game falling foul of the weather yesterday & being in 2 cup competitions still, what toll is this going to take on the Mighty Spartans?

We have 7 more League matches to squeeze in around/in between the Cups, I know it's April fools tomorrow but what if those fools turn to showers? If we get anymore postponements will the League be extended or will we have to play possibly 3 games a week?

Whatever happens having to play 2 games per week is hardly the best preparation for our assault on the title & the 2 Cups eh?

Thankfully we are only a league of 15 this season, imagine had we been up to our full compliment?

Poor Spartans eh.

Seriously though Sammy's dilemma is priorities, what if E City drop a few of their games now, what if we get any more injuries, we are still bringing players back from injury, do we risk playing them when they are not fully fit in certain matches & run the wrath of P&B for apparently not playing our strongest squad, when in all probability it could be our only squad? I know we have the EoS & the U teams to delve into but they are all coming to the business end of their seasons too & is it fair to start thrusting these lads in to such big vitally important games at 1 or 2 levels above them?

I've always been opposed to summer football but I dunno what the solution is?

The League is over Grim City will win there last 3 games cant see them dropping any points with the teams they have left to play so the only success you will get is in the cups and we all know Spartans fall short when it comes to winning cups already pumped of EK in a cup final so if i was dougie i would be concentrating on the cups instead of the league

E City - Vale fighting for their lives

Stirling Uni - fighting for that all important 2nd spot.

The Welfare- on the cusp of a massive turnaround & new manager.

Btw no other team as as many league games left as us, so how can any others be in the same boat?

I will be back at the end of the season with my final thoughts on matters, you are all on report until then.

Grimbo

Eta anyone good at quizzes? Who won the 1st ever Lowland League?

It's your gaffer that's been in the papers saying it was done a long time ago. I think you're right- each of those fixtures is difficult for city for the reasons you mention- which is why I find it quite disrespectful when Sammy says it's been done for ages as if these teams ( and all the other teams City will have played) have just lay down and waited to be beat. This is one hell of a competitive league and for him to say it's done slaps a few teams efforts in the face.

The funny thing is if grim had posted the original post today we'd have all realised what it was! But he's genuinely serious about the price of success. If success now means 'never spend one week at the top of the lowland league and fail to win any cups'.

Come on Grim lol put the sour grapes away who cares who won it first City have won it back to back and wouldnt surprise me if they won it again next season if they keep there squad

Vale of Leithen will certainly not beat City thats for sure the sacking of Lawson (which was just stupid as he brought in good players including Cloudie getin points on the board and sacking him for it) will not help there causes as they have many very young boys playing for them

Stirling yes very hard game for City but cant see them losing it

Whitehill same again another hard game for City but in my opinion City will scoop all 9 points maybe a draw at Stirling and they will get another crack at SPFL promotion

Being a Spartans man Grim you wont know that experience of playing in play offs to get into the SPFL :P;)

Enjoy Spartans "all mighty" busy league schedule

Didn't realise he was sacked.

Mickey came in to be top dogs of the LL teams in the Borders.

3rd of 3 didn't help his cause.

Having stumbled across his blog recently sadly I think he has the sour grapes.

City to scoop all 9 points with maybes a draw at Stirling.

Lol make yer mind up Davy.

Talk about sitting on the fence :D

I reckon city would be gutted if they were to have the opportunity to win it a third time. They'll be looking to not be in it next year surely?

It's a question not a statement. The ? Is the dead give away.

I won't change my tune though. We have 7 more league games to go, any slip from City & they will be shitting themselves.

Next season, well City will like the rest of us be a year older, now I dunno their average age or what their plans are for bringing in new blood at the close of season all I know is that our season will be going on longer than theirs.

I will revisit this thread at the close of season to answer my own question, whilst most of you hace already made up your minds.
