Our Strongest XI

Marshmallo

Recommended Posts

A few months to go till the first qualifier, and the answer may depend on the game, but what do you think our strongest XI is just now?

I'd say

McGregor

Hutton Martin Hanley Tierney

Fletcher McArthur

Ritchie Snodgrass Anya

Naismith

I'd probably have Morrison instead of McArthur but other than that I'd agree. It depends on the game as well, against Malta I'd probably play Robertson instead of Tierney, for example.

Can't really disagree with Marshmallos side. Think the keepers are much of a muchness though so would be happy with either of the 3 first choices. Perhaps rate Gordon and McGregor slightly ahead of Marshall.

Maybe it's just because it's a while since I've seen him play for us, but I reckon Naismith is on his way to becoming yesterday's man - in international terms at least. For all he works like feck up front he isn't as technically good as Fletcher and nowhere near the finisher that Griff, Rhodes and McCormack are.

I reckon he'll be called up to most if not all squads for the next campaign, but I can't see Strachan starting him up front when any of the others mentioned are fit ( so he might be shoehorned into the 3 behind - but is it worth having him there in place of, say, Anya or Ritchie?)

Keepers are much of a muchness but I'd have Marshall in as our number 1.

Robertson at left back but again its a good headache for Strachan to have.

The 3 in behind the striker and the striker position in itself is fascinating. Snodgrass and Anya are first choice for me then its a toss up between 5-6 players for the remaining 2 positions.

If I was to choose right now for Malta away i'd probably go for Fletcher up front instead of Naismith with the 3 you mentioned in behind him. McCormack has done himself no harm either. Who knows maybe Rhodes will be scoring goals in the Premier League during our qualifiers.

Ritchie Snodgrass and Anya is quite an exciting attacking midfield line up, looking forward to seeing what they can to together. I'd have Robertson at LB.

Fletcher at CM with McArthur or Morrison depending on the opposition.

Naismith or Fletcher up top depending on their form.

Naismith behind fletcher with snodgrass on the right. Snodgrass does a brilliant shift down on the wing. Still don't rate Ritchie that highly, gives the ball away far too often. Robertson has to start for me as well.

I'm also starting to think greer is a better player than Martin but unfortunately it's just too late in the day.

Would help immensely if McCormack got a move to the EPL.

Think he's as good as hell get, I think he's a superb striker, I never thought he would be in our plans so thought it would be a waste of time calling him up but looks like he could be so I hope we give him a chance. Think Naismith/Fletcher and Maloney have had theirs and we can still use the first two from the bench if needed.

McGregor

Hutton Martin Berra Robertson

McArthur Morrison

Ritchie Snodgrass Anya

Naismith

Think Brown and D Fletcher should be waved off into the sunset, not sure about CBs but like a left / right foot combination. I'd hope Paterson would be pushing Hutton / Whittaker for a place in the next 18 months.
