rtg1971
Are there any junior teams out there who have bought GPS activity/trackers for their team? The ones that are specifically aimed at football are £1k+ per unit so obviously they are waaaaayy out our price range. However, im trialling a cycling gps tracker just now to see what it can show - all were really interested in is distance, max speed, average speed and the area of the park (like a heat map) of where the player was. Ive attached a picture from a player from my u15s at the weekend - i couldnt get all the stats in the 1 picture but it can be broken down to each half and shows me that he hit a max speed of 15.5 miles per hour 15 minutes in to the game. Anyone use them and if so what ones do you use and the most important question - how much?
Killiepiyo
Take it he had to recover the ball at two points during the game lol. I think its cool but like all data collection its the analysis of it that matters keen to see more of how you'd get on with it tho. Very innovative

Very innovative lol no the number 1 zone is where we warmed up as there was a game on the park before us. The point behind the goals baffles me as he was never out the park so i think it may be a blip in the positioning system or maybe the park is bigger than the satellite image shows. HibeeJibee
Possibly he surreptitiously relieved himself behind a tree. All I see is a park almost entirely covered by squiggles, tbh. Not sure how much it tells you.
jimbaxters
Sorry to be such a cynic but all you've proven there is how obsessed you are with gadgets and/or stats. All you can do with this information is gauge if the boy's speed or endurance fluctuates in the next match. Can't see any value in it. Thanks for the insight though. Ah true, can you get a more zoomed in image like closer to the pitch with what ever ur using?
Hillonearth
It's far from the first time Junior players have played wearing electronic tags. Admittedly, in those cases you'd probably need to ask the polis for the data after the game though...
rtg1971
Ah true, can you get a more zoomed in image like closer to the pitch with what ever ur using? yeah you can mate - tried out the garmin product tonight and thats a defo bin job. The images above were from my polar watch but obviously the players shouldnt be wearing watches. adidas are brining out a micoach pro but i pretty much think that will be stupid money as well. Thanks for the insight though. thats exactly the point we can sit down and work out why he only ran 3 miles in the game or only hit 10 mph and ask why - was it the game, was it the conditions, was he not well? It is also a very useful tool for training as you can then instantly know the players who are kidding themselves on.
