Record of Junior Clubs in the Scottish C

H'lo,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm a bit of a sadcase and I keep a note of the results of Junior teams in the Scottish Cup since they first entered in 2007. Given the heightened attention around this just now, with Linlithgow Rose being the first Junior club in the 5th round, I thought people might be interested in some of the stats.

This will be the third time a Junior team has faced top tier opposition, with the previous two being Irvine Meadow XI's 3-0 loss at Hibs in 2009/10, and Auchinleck Talbot's very unlucky 1-0 defeat at Hearts in 2011/12. In all three the Junior club has been drawn away.

Junior teams have met tier 2 opposition 4 times, losing all 4 ties:

2007/08 Queen of the South 4 - 0 Linlithgow Rose (QoS went to the final that year)

2011/12 Livingston 6 - 0 Irvine Meadow XI

2011/12 Culter 1 - 1 Partick Thistle (this is the only time a Junior team has avoided defeat, or scored against, a team in the top 2 tiers).

Replay: Partick Thistle 4 - 0 Culter

2014/15 Linlithgow Rose 0 - 2 Raith Rovers

Junior teams have met tier 3 opposition 10 times, going through twice and being eliminated 8 times. Five of the ties went to replays. The winning Junior teams were:

2009/10 Irvine Meadow XI 1 - 0 Arbroath (the first time a Junior team beat a league side)

2015/16 Forfar 0 - 1 Linlithgow Rose (replay)

A notable mention goes to Hurlford, who lost 13-12 on penalties to Stirling Albion.

Junior teams have met tier 4 opposition 9 times, going through three times and being eliminated 6 times. Three of the ties went to replays. The winning Junior teams were:

2010/11 Albion Rovers 0 - 1 Sunnybank (the first, and still only, away win for a Junior team at a league side)

2010/11 Bo'ness Utd 2 - 1 Queen's Park

2014/15 Bo'ness Utd 5 - 4 Elgin City (replay)

The biggest win for a Junior team in the Scottish Cup is 2011/12 Banks O'Dee 10 - 0 Fort William. The biggest defeat is actually in a match between two Junior teams: 2014/15 Bo'ness Utd 7 - 1 Culter. The biggest defeat by a Junior team to a non-Junior team is 6-0, which happened to Irvine Meadow in their match v Livingston described above, and again in 2012/13 Bonnyrigg Rose v Brechin City replay.

In all Junior teams have played 123 matches against other opponents and there have been six all-Junior ties; they've W60 D24 L45; scored 309 goals and conceded 216; and been represented by 17 teams (including Girvan). Auchinleck Talbot have played the most matches (18), a figure Linlithgow Rose will match when they play Ross County, with Girvan tucked in next on 17 (helps that they've qualified every year as an SFA member).

If anyone is interested in any more stats, let me know and I'll see if I can pull them out.

A little contradiction there, IMO

Literally forgot Sunnybank existed till I read this thread. I'm assuming they haven't done much since that result? Who put them out in the following round?

In 2010/11 Sunnybank beat Gala Fairydean 6-1 away in the first round, Albion Rovers in the second, and lost 5-0 at Ayr Utd in the third. The nearly had to take a year out very soon after, if I remeber right. I think they managed to carry on.
