Catholic Rangers, Protestant Celtic

Recommended Posts

Following on from a conversation in GN, I was wondering if there is a higher percentage of protestant Celtic fans or catholic Rangers fans.

I was also wondering if this upsets their fellow fans and to what level.

I was searching for a video of Rangers' fans behaviour following the Mo Johnston signing earlier but couldn't find it but stumbled across this little gem of a video featuring a wonderfully open minded young man.

...and then this classic...

I can't speak for the unwashed racists but there are none of the regular Bears on here who give a f**k about religion wrt our team.

That's not true.

Most of the Rangers fans on here steer clear of that stuff, but you've been very keen at various points to link Rangers and your support for them to Protestantism.

My views are neither normative nor typical.

I didn't say or suggest that you did.

I did however challenge your claim that "there are none of the regular bears on here who give a f**k about religion wrt our team".

You are what you'd class as a "regular bear on here", yet you clearly do give a f**k about religion wrt your team. There's plenty of evidence of it on these boards.

And you're doing your casuistic nit-picking on the rangers threads. Again.

It's not nit picking at all.

You made a claim on behalf of all regular Rangers fans on here.

It would just about have stood up, were it not for the fact that you, more than any of them, demolish the claim with your posting history.

I know a guy who says exactly the same things as the Rangers fan at the start

Edit: Anyway as an answer, I know one Catholic Rangers fan and no Protestant Celtic fans. Although to tell the truth I know very few religious people.

Double edit: The first video where the caption thing says Celtic fans are the best in world is enough to make you feel a wee bit of sympathy for him. Then he says the thing about the stand collapsing...

Triple edit: So it actually makes sense

Are you drunk tonight, Sonsteam?

You know no catholic Celtic fans and the Rangers fan in the video said that Celtic fans are the best in the world?

Fellow fans won't be upset.

Opposition fans, well, the religious one's which is a very small percentage these days due the rise in Atheism and Agnosticism, may get upset.

For example, before I gave up on religion, which was a long time ago now, no Rangers fan had an issue with me being a Catholic. However, certain Celtic fans had something to say about it.

It's the same when a Catholic signs for Rangers such as Amoruso or Neil McCann. They didn't get criticised by Rangers fans did they?...........

Pretty sure Amoruso quickly stopped blessing himself as he entered the field of play when he was pulled aside and told that sort of thing wasn't tolerated down Govan way.

Not true.

Amoruso used to bless himself all the time.

And I've never heard a Rangers fan complain about the many players who have blessed themselves as they enter the field of play to represent Rangers.

My mistake - it was Fran Sandaza who said he was advised to cut it out.

 Last time I post when I'm on my way back from work and can't fully concentrate! I don't have enough brain power to do two tasks at once.

The first video did have a bit - edited in by the uploader - about why Celtic fans are the best in the world in my defence.

*scuttles off to make everything look better*

This was the point I was referring to earlier in the original topic this was posted on , both sides have their issues but in my opinion celtic have more of an issue when someone from their perceived background joins Rangers than the vice versa

Two players that crossed the "divide" Alfie conn and mo Johnston , now conn will still face some people who hold a grudge over his decision , I am not disputing but he still does supporters functions , was inducted to the 2007 hall of fame and I may be mistaken but was he not involved with a Rangers pub after his playing career? Compare that with the Johnston scenario and you can see a clear contrast

When McCann signed their was stories that his families house in port glasgow had their windows tanned and his old man received abuse at parkhead in his usual seat at the time aswell , did dalgleish or mcgrain for example face these issues ?

Edit : sorry pundit , quoted the wrong post , it should have been the one where you were referring to McCann and so on

My mistake - it was Fran Sandaza who said he was advised to cut it out.

He did say that but he also never said who had advised him. (or what team they support)

I find it hard to believe though that after all the years of Catholics blessing themselves at Ibrox that they would turn around and say to Fran Sandaza in 2012 not to bless himself. Does that sound logical to you?..
