Players on loan - then freed.

No idea why I was thinking about this but what happens if a player is out on loan to a club and during the period of his loan the parent club decide to terminate the player's contract? Does his loan stop as not registered with the parent club leaving the player out of action until the next window?

I have no idea but I imagine this will have happened to some of the clubs who have gone into admin over the years. I would imagine the loan comes to an end and the player is immediately a free agent.

The short answer is they can't. They'd have to terminate the loan first. But yes, he can't be out on loan without having a parent club.

I don't know for sure how it works in scenarios where the parent club goes into administration. I'd imagine in most cases the player isn't immediately made redundant since he's out on loan and costing them nothing (presuming the borrowing club are meeting his wages). In past examples such as Dundee and Dunfermline, where players were made redundant they were able to join another club immediately outwith the window as exemptions were made for them so, presuming they can find another club (potentially the one they were on loan to) then they could sign and not be out of action.
