Shibuya
Hi guys, Invading your forum here but I hope you guys can spare two minutes to help out my club. As I am sure you are aware, we were recently shopped to the Procurator Fiscal to the Court of the Lord Lyon by an Airdrie supporter for sporting a badge that is in breach of heraldic law for having 1) a Saltire within an enclosed shape and 2) having lettering within an enclosed shape. The law dates back to the 1600s and is one of those ridiculous old laws that has no place in society any more. We are looking to petition our local MP, Corri Wilson and MSP, John Scott to raise this law with the Secretary of State for Culture, John Whittingdale MP. In order to do this we need the backing of as many Scottish football fans as possible, if you are reading this then please take two minutes to sign our petition and help Save The Badge! If you are thinking "why would I help Ayr United?" I can fully understand, however please be aware that over 20 Scottish clubs could be forced to change their badge unless we can get this law changed (I'm looking at you, Raith, Morton, Livi and QoS!) Thank you all! https://www.change.org/p/john-whittingdale-mp-corri-wilson-mp-save-ayr-united-fc-s-badge

Can't see why it would affect us.

Skyline Drifter
Tell us more about this Airdrie fan!? I remember posting with some sympathy about the Airdrie situation ... but one of them has dobbed you in!? Arsehole! There's a thread about it on the League One forum if you are interested. He got drunk then posted on Facebook that he was going to report Ayr United since Airdrie had been unable to get any common sense about their badge. He then posted the email he got back from the Lord Lyon's office acknowledging the complaint. There are photos on the thread.
Tam
I couldn't care less about the Lord and his laws. No really! It is at the bottom of the very large list I have about things I care about.
vikingTON
1. I couldn't have cared less about Airdrie's whining about a badge then, and so I certainly don't care about yours now. 2. I very much doubt that Ayr fans cared about Airdrie's campaign then, which failed with little support, so setting up your own one now just days after you've been done is a bit rich anyway. 3. Your club being shopped by a bitter Airdrie fan has been superb entertainment, which deserves a fitting conclusion. So for those three reasons, I'm out. GiGi
Lot of shite. Getting shopped by an Airdrie fan after they beat Airdrie is pathetic but ominous too, given our routine spankings of Airdrie and Ayr we could be next if any of their fans' jimmies are rustled! I'm in.
FTOF
I'm sure we lost the castellations on our badge years ago due to this pish.
qos_75
We have used a number of different club crests over the years. I can think of at least two that could be used if the Lord Lyon came calling. The current crest divides opinion anyway so I cannot see too many tears shed on it's passing. The very retro letters of Q.o.S.F.C. 70's and early 80's style. The next one (my favourite) was similar to the badge we used up until a couple of years ago. Crucially though, it was not enclosed by a shape. It was QoS letters written over the top of each other with the wording Queen of the South FC forming an incomplete circle. This featured on the matchwinner kits of 1989 to 1994. That said, Morton, Airdrie, Ayr etc all have decent crests so it would be a shame if they had to change them. I am sure Hibs had to change theirs in the late 80's as it had a crown on it.

johnny graham
Thought at first you.were trying to save Scottish badgers but best way to screw up.lord Lyon is not buy his ice cream. Toby
It doesn't have an enclosed shield shape, unlike 20+ other clubs! Your badge potentially violates heraldic law based on the colours used. Your initial post cited a saltire within an enclosed shied and lettering within an enclosed shape. As Airdrie's current badge is now suitable, with lettering very like our's and there is no saltire or lettering within the shield, I doubt we've got too much to worry about here. We have added letters to it, but I'd welcome their removal if someone did complain about our badge. i appreciate this doesn't help you, right enough. Shibuya
It's the letters on the Raith badge that are illegal, you are correct! Other clubs can fall foul of the law if the colours used are deemed unacceptable by the Lord Lyon.
