CearesTA
I am looking for some help with some research I am doing. I am trying to get an idea of the school football set up in Scotland. Does anyone know if there is a single body in charge of organising school football in Scotland? Does anyone know how many different age groups there are? Is there any website where I can see all the different fixtures in any one weekend? I have tried looking for the information but I've not found a clear answer on the internet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Boomtown Boy
If you are looking at High School football then it is divided into seperate areas i.e. Edinburgh/East/Midlothian Forth Valley, Fife etc all have their own league system with the Scottish Schools FA co-ordinating the Scottish Shields competitions (Scottish Cup). Normally there are teams from 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year, 4th year and seniors. In the Edinburgh area its the LSFA that runs league and local cup competitions they have a website with all games and results. Primary Schools run football teams that play 7 a side but have no league or cup competitions as at that age the games are non competitive i.e. no winning or losing and are all just friendlies with other local schools organised between teachers who take to do with the football at that particular school. paul-r-cfc
Primary school teams in East Renfrewshire anyway are involved with the boys clubs in Saturday morning football at sevens. As in, one location where all the teams of that age group play a couple of games a week Also, I assume you've already found this but the SSFA website doesn't have much on it. http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/ssfa/ Also, you have the Scottish Indepependent Schools FA which organises football between the non-state schools (mostly private but some anomalies like Jordanhill). A lot of the schools that fall into this category don't run teams any younger than senior (U16/17) as the focus at most Scottish private schools is on rugby

HibeeJibee
Paul-r-cfc has posted the link to the SSFA website which show the nuts-and-bolts of how their competitions work. Basically there are national knockout Shields for boys and girls at various age-groups, of which the Boys Senior Shield (a U18s) is the oldest and most prestigious. There are also consolation Plates for teams who lose in the early rounds. Obviously there will be a huge variety of local competitions - leagues, cups, festivals and so forth. It wouldn't surprise me if the local press are the only place for those details. They also run Boys Cups for Seniors and U15s involving county selects starting with a groupstage. Plus they have various teams at international level.
paul-r-cfc
You get regional teams as well made up of players from different schools within a certain area. Eg, a Glasgow select, Lanarkshire select etc. Assume theyre run by local bodies of the SSFA or something similar The SISFA select team also play an English select team once a year, alternating the venue year on year
CearesTA
Thanks for the replies so far. I am currently living in Spain and training a side here. It's got me thinking how school football is organised in Scotland. The set up seems much more unified and logical than in Scotland. The fact it's so difficult to find any information on the set up in Scotland kind of says it all.
