El Clausico

It's Whitehill v Spartans on Saturday- the game of the day in the Lowland League

(if only because THE CHAMPIONS aren't playing! :P ).

Never mind El Classico- this is El CLAUSico. This was always a big fixture in the East calendar and usually kept towards the end of the season: a crowd of 500 turned up once at City Park for a midweek title decider a few seasons back (they were obviously Junior fans who took a wrong turning.. aye. right.). Spice was added to the fixture in the 2000s with Mickey and a lot of ex-Welfare stars decamping to North Edinburgh and later when The Messiah* returned to Fergie Park for the second coming.

Lorraine Clerk has been given the task of officiating this mouthwatering fixture- a good experienced referee who doesn't take any crap.

We're giving Grim a suitable outfit to wear at Fergie Park. Designed to keep out the icy Midlothian winds (handy for a man of Grim's advanced years) it comes in the Spartans club colours of red and white with a bell to cheer on his favourites and is made by popular gent's outfitters Stoned Island.

(*in actual fact, he's not The Messiah, he's a very naughty boy)

Well will there be fireworks lighting up Rosewell tomorrow?

We are shaping up nicely & a few of our boys are nearing the end of the road to recovery. It's going to be a great Christmas present to see all our guns firing.

The Welfare despite all the detractors have made steady progress after a massive overhaul. They are the sneaky buggers of the Lowlsnd League. Ok they've lost more games than the rest of their title challenging hopefuls but they are still not out of the race, yet.

A win is crucial for both teams to keep the League title in sight but there's still plenty of football to be played before that title is decided.

I like Fergie Park, it's got that old fashioned feel about it. It reminds me of uncle Joes mint balls, of me maw spitting on an hanky to clean my face with. You know the good ol days.

Let's hope I make it back in time for the ko at 2pm.

Don't think anyone at WW sees them as title challengers we leave that to teams like Spartans lol

forecast is poor and I doubt it will be on but if it is good luck to both teams

What time is the pitch inspection?

Will be up to the ref when she gets there Hoof. Pitch soft in places but no standing water as of 11am. However raining quite heavy and forecast to continue all afternoon now.

It might be a bit damp but the game will definitely be on.

Glad I ignored you Rab and stayed at home. See you in April!

I refer you to my post of 26th June. Wish I had put money on it.
