Marshmallo
Scotland's points haul from this group? v England 0 v. Malta 6 v. Slovakia 1 v. Slovenia 3 v. Lithuania 4 Total .. 14. Failure again! I will guess England 0 Slovakia 3 Slovenia 4 Lithuania 4 Malta 6 17 points, probably not enough unless Slovenia or Lithuania do us a favour against Slovakia. Enigma
Slovakia's population looks to be only 100,000 or so more than ours so using Supras logic we'll just finish 3rd.
Doc Sportello
Why would people want rid of Hutton and Maloney? They've been two of our best players this campaign and have shown no signs of age affecting their physicality adversely.
callum-ayr
England - 1 Slovakia - 3 Slovenia - 4 Lithuania - 4 Malta - 6 Team to start the campaign, realistically: Gordon New RB Martin Hanley Robertson McArthur Morrison Snodgrass Armstrong Anya Naismith/Fletcher You're hoping Patterson can develop at Hearts and maybe get a move, if not, it's a toss up between Hutton and Whittaker. Morrison and McArthur will most definitely be our 2 best centre mids and Dorrans will probably be in or around there. Think the 3 attacking mids pick themselves and then the striker is really a lottery.

Again, what exactly has Hutton done wrong? He's still as fast and as sharp as he was when he was 25, so what exactly is the problem here?

Has he got another full campaign in him? If not, would it not be an idea to try find/blood a replacement into the team?

DA Baracus
The radio pundit gaggle are, mostly, inexplicably saying that performances were mostly good in the campaign. Whilst there were a couple (most notably Poland away) the others were either poor (most notably the cowardly shite in Georgia away) or effective (Ireland and Georgia at home). Yet they're talking about an exciting brand of football we apparently played that was entertaining. When was this? There have been improvements under Strachan, but we're still miles behind many other countries in how we play, with many more rapidly catching us up. Many teams must find us so easy to play against as we're so predictable and give posession away so easily. The long punts up the park from defence must seem positivelt archaic to a lot of teams (and probably pretty funny). Our ethos of sitting back in away games and mostly shiteing it must have many teams wondering why we even bother a lot of the time. We're going in to the next campaign with the same management and same players. What's going to change? Are we suddenly going to start keeping the ball? Are we suddenly going to get better technically? Is the defence suddenly going to be effective? Will we start creating more chances? Will we suddenly have players who can take a man on? Will the movement off the ball suddenly get better?
sergie's no1 fan
Before Strachan took over we hardly scored, especially away from home. I fancy us to score most games now. Problem is we lost goals just as easy. We scored 4 v Poland, 3 v Germany but conceded more than double the amount of goals Ireland lost. Its about getting the balance between shitfesting it enough not to lost many goals but keeping our attacking threat: . Sounds simple n it goes without saying really but GS isn't a defence minded manager.

PrestersKTID
If we've a realistic chance of qualifying this time we need 18 points as a minimum, win home and away against Lithuania and Malta, then home wins against slovenia and slovakia. Taking anything extra from England or away from slovenia, slovakia would be a bonus. We can't rely on anyone else taking points off anyone as last campaign proved. If we want to qualify it's in our hands.
effeffsee_the2nd
we will need to beat slovenia away if we dont want to rely on other results going our way. cant see slovakia pissing away points like we would. we will probably lose away to them and draw away to lithunia f**k up ya pessimistic c**t and toke up on happy pills. Monkey Tennis
So how did they qualify? Was it via the home internationals? That's how it worked for some early tournaments, but not sure how it could have in 1958, because all the home countries qualified.
oneteaminglasgow
Was it via the home internationals? That's how it worked for some early tournaments, but not sure how it could have in 1958, because all the home countries qualified. They came second in their qualifying group, which wouldn't normally have let them qualify. However, due to a few countries refusing to play Israel, FIFA drew one of the European runners up to play them. Wales got drawn and beat Israel.
