Gretna v Gala

BUZZZZ

Recommended Posts

I wasn't at the game but heard about the incident where the Grena keeper was about a yard outside his box and dived to his right to palm the ball away to deny Noble a goal and got off with it scot free!

I presumed it was a bit of an exaggeration but the video says it all! Inexplicable refereeing!

You can see it at around the 4th to 5th minute!

Because it came off his midriff / chest.

I was standing at the other side from the camera and it was more obvious from that angle. As you can see no Gala players appealed for the 'foul' (other than the number 9's half hearted one)

What is inexplicable was two or three of the offside decisions given in the second half.

That was my reaction viewing it - the 9 doesn't even really appeal. Think my favourite though is the shout of 'penalty!' From what sounds like the gala bench.

You were there and I wasn't Cicero so I can accept your take on it but would just like to make a couple of points on what I can see, the first being if you frame by frame it the keeper actually dives to his right and his body is facing towards the stand and when the ball makes contact he has his left hand across his chest and his right hand outstretched which the ball appears to strike pushing the ball downwards and outwards which with the angle he is standing at there is no way his chest alone could have deflected the ball at such an angle! If you listen to it with the volume on then there appears to be plenty of protests from around the ground! That's just my take on it !

Purely as a matter of interest, in the incident a minute before that when the Gretna No6 was booked, in your opinion what was difference that made that a yellow compared to a straight red for Devlin in last years cup tie at Gretna ?

The fact it happened in front of the offending teams dug out. So many refs give gretna decisions on that side of the pitch cos of the constant shouts of the gretna 'coaching' team

the incident when gretna no 6 player was booked at 3.22 on video - was actually in front of the away dug out - Gretna have changed their dug out to nearer the club house.

also all the shouts of hand ball came from the far blind side of the pitch

just an observation - Surely Not & Buzz

As the ball strikes the keeper's body, his left hand is clearly by his side as it is going down. The ref who standing nearby had no doubt, as were those of us standing 20 yards from it. The shouts you hear are from the Gala contingent seated further away in the other side of the stand.

Diggler was booked for a push on the chest (below the shoulders). Delvin was sent off for a push on the back of the head (above the shoulders). Ask any referee what the directive from the SFA is about the difference in punishments.

Not too sure if you are getting mixed up with the keepers left and right but the video defo tells a different story! Have you tried freezing the frames ?

I have managed to get a couple that shows the ball going straight down and hitting the ground and then going outwards and cant see any way that hitting his chest would make it go in that trajectory! I cant get the frames to save so that I can post them but I think that anyone who tries it will reach the same conclusion as myself!

At Least it didn't have a detrimental effect on the outcome of the match from Galas point of view and makes interesting viewing!

Bore off........

Both dugouts on the same side and Home moved. Tit

I don't blame the refs, I blame the 'allocater' .......refs and assistants not up to the level of the league, happens too often.......just because there 'local'

Officials poor for both sides but in no way an excuse of why game was lost. Gala wanted it more on the day.

What's happening at raydale? I had them as real title challengers at the start of season. Thought the players they had brought in added to the squad that finished third would kick on from that and really get close to EK as the ones to push city. Didn't think city would be able to do what they did last year and saw gretna as a real threat. Any of the gretna fans willing to share their views?
