the ton
Reported in our local rag[Greenock tele] that a Benburb fan threw hot liquid over a Port Player on Saturday and had to be locked in the dressing room for his own safety,Not a great advert for the club,or the game. Mon The Port
I heard it was the Benburb manager's brother who threw the drink. Disgraceful.

I'd use the word fan very loosely. Friends and relatives of the team more like. A fan to me is somebody that's turns up to support the team outside of being on the committee or related to the management or team. A true Junior fan would never dream of assaulting a player or anybody else at a Junior game.

Glenconner
Committee members are fans as well. This is correct, 99% of committee men are fans. Although i've never personally never heard of non committee fans using the facilities as a gang hut outwith match days, stealing the clubs funds or selling the ground. Be interesting to know how many committee men hang around after the social club shuts down or the ground is sold and its a fight for survival regarding the football team. Football teams at every level have had their fair share of complete chancers hanging around them over the years. I know of one Junior committee man that made inquiries to a local lawyer regarding the title deeds to the ground. He got a shut eye when the lawyer told him the ground was sold years earlier and the benefactor leased them the ground back for a nominal sum each year. The committee man dropped out soon after. How was the replay on Saturday, did any of the trouble continue from the previous week? Bit of a trek for Benburb in the next round.
