None of these players was a midfield general in what time they most recently had at Clyde. Some threatened to be. Some were before their knees started to knock. But most were mediocre at best.

The core of Clyde's midfield has been feeble since two-thousand-and-seven. It has looked alternately aged, slow, small, paceless and inexperienced. A subtle and unfortunate consequence of this horrid history has been the acquisition of a special talent by our support: the ability to rationalise the contributions of awful footballers.

Go and watch the highlights of Clyde's victory over Dunfermline on September 22nd '07. Pay particular attention to the contributions of Stevie Masterson (admittedly a midfielder whose talent declined shortly thereafter). That ingredient, evinced in Masterson's performance, has been the singular, though never the single, absent thing in (more) recent Clyde sides. It's power, it's quickness, it's agility, it's aggression, it's work-rate, it's vision, it's touch and more. It might even resemble arrogance sometimes. We are absolutely ganting for a player like that, and have been for years. Not another loosely defined 'attacking midfielder' as has been said on recent match threads. We've had (and have) way too many of those. It isn't even Alexanders Gramovics, who, though he was an excellent player, could never take a midfield by the scruff of its neck.

Every single one of those you mention were absolute jesters, except Marvyn Wilson when he played against us. In descending order, i'll sort you a list from Darren Sheridan, Jimmy Gibson, Andy Millen, Andy McClay, Martin O'Neill, Stevie Clarke and Gerry McCabe.
