Livingston v. Inverness Caledonian Thistle

Recommended Posts

Shot ourselves in the foot with Neill's attempted header back to DJ conceding our first goal, just can't afford to do that against any team let alone one in a higher division in a cup game. Actually got off with another bad mistake earlier when we passed it along our own back line and it got cut out by one of their players who ran in on our goal.

Real pity too cause after Caley started with crisp passing and being on top of us we settled into the game and were all over them for a good part of that half pummelling their goal. Shit defending of a set piece on the edge of our box and game over. Basically we played well enough in the attacking part of the game with some good efforts at goal but were just not good enough in defence.

Still think Sheerin deserves starts and thought he played well against Caley, gets shots off at goal and anything knocked to him sticks, def needs to start against Alloa.

Pretty much agree with what others have said. The half hour or so between the goals was as good as we've been this season and against the best side we've faced. Even the first 10-15 of the second we were on top. Last 20 livi were knacked as they'd pressed Caley so much, it was only then that their class shone through. Take that performance into Alloa and barring another catastrophic mistake or refereeing decision, we'll get the 3 points. Thought Caley were miles ahead of hibs in how they moved the ball.

I thought we were very poor last night. Luckily we got an early goal capitalising on a defensive error and after surviving some pretty sustained pressure from Livi got another one to give us a bit more of a cushion. Good to see Storey get on the score sheet again. He's obviously not the finished product but he shows real promise and he did well to seize on a slack back pass although he struggled to actually finish it off when he seemed to get the ball stuck beneath his beet on the line

Good header from Devine for the second which you could see coming a mile off. As soon as Tansey was lining up the free kick Devine was gesturing for the ball to be played to the back post where he was lurking unnoticed. Good free kick from Tansey to pick him out and it was a pretty easy header.

Between the goals Livi really dominated the game and should probably have equalised. Someone for ICT cleared a header off the line and Tremarco made a goal saving challenge to block a shot before Fon Williams pulled off a decent save to stop Gary Goal-en.

In the second half, as if we weren't already finding things a bit of a slog, we tried to score for Livi when Raven headed the ball onto the bar (or just over) from a free kick. One of the Livi defenders then had a great chance to score with a brilliant turn and volley which went just wide.

With Livi pressing we were able to create a wee bit more on the break and Tansey curled an effort just wide before Williams burst into the box and looked to be hacked down but Alan Muir gave nothing. Subs Mutumbo and Lopez then combined to set up another great chance to kill the game off but as usual Lopez Hibs'd it up before Mutumbo hit the post with another late effort.

Good to get the win but again we weren't very good however we took our chances when they came and although Livi might feel a wee bit hard done by that was the difference between the sides. We'll need to improve a lot before Saturday if we want to take anything from the game. Plus points were Storey again looked promising and Mutumbo showed that when he's not trying to murder people on the pitch he can actually be a decent creative player for us.

Well summed up review of the game RiG. Don't like knocking players but Lopez is not adding anything to the team, maybe we should loan him out to someone like Elgin to give him game time and help him regain his talents.

Did you think we were good?

Is that down to you or us though. 3 teams that have better players than us saying they played poorly against us, Livi deserve some of the credit for making them play poorly, but they just put it down to their teams having a bad game.

Teams don't need to play that well to beat us though as we continually shoot ourselves in the foot with bad defensive mistakes gifting goals.

Hibs were awful on Saturday. Didn't see the games against Rangers or ICT, but what I do know is that you don't have to be particularly good to beat Livi. I think more of our fans need to realise how bad we are, because I'm struggling to remember a Livi side as bad as this one.

I understand your frustration at us only having 1 point in the league but I've def seen worse Livi teams and don't think we're as bad as you're making out. There are positives in our play but defensively we need to get our act together.
