Ayr United v Albion Rovers

Recommended Posts

This will be the warm up for the league class fortnight later. At the moment, we're a bit weak in the striking department, but I'd expect us to have at least 1 striker to be brought into the team by this fixture. Can a trialist be played in these matches? Winnable tie at home which is a bonus, but Albion will also be looking at it as winnable. At the moment our line-up wold look something like this:

Fleming

Devlin McLauchlan Murphy Boyle

Crawford Docherty

Trouten Gilmour Donald

Forrest

Would expect Newman, Campbell, Nisbett, McKenzie, Muir and the ret of the other youngsters to make up the bench, as well as any new faces that could come in and make it into the line-up or the bench. Fancy a win regardless of any more players or not, so going for a 2-0 home win.

I reckon there will be a couple more signings in before this game. I feel this is a good chance to start off with a win at home but Albion are no pushovers. I fancy us to win but not by a big margin.

2-1 Ayr.

McLauchlan og?

Looking forward to this one now that all our friendlies are done.

AR appear to be slightly weaker than what they were last season losing their Number 1 from last season as well as their top goal scorer( I think) in Mark McGuigan but as always big John Gemmell will be a threat.

In the paper that Alan Forest will miss the game through injury which is a massive blow for us as he is one of our key players, therefore hoping we line up:

Fleming

Devlin

Murphy

Gerry

Boyle

Crawford

Docherty

Gilmour

Trouten

Donald

Caldwell

Subs- Newman, Muir, McCracken, Campbell,Adams, McKenzie, Nisbet

Long season ahead for Albion.

My first thought exactly, Dug. It looks like it'll be a lean year for our lean squad. Poor performances by all the newbies and most of the oldies indicate that we seem to have gone a step back from last season's roster.

Long season ahead for Albion.

This.

Unless Ayr are actually title contenders above the standard of the division. We were a distant second in every area. The new players all looked poorer than the ones we released.

Wasn't that impressed with Ayr - no width and no pace in the final third. Defence looked pretty solid though and Docherty looked like he could be decent. Hard to really judge as Albion were desperate.

3-0 Caldwell, sounds like Gilly and Docherty are having good games. Nizzy and McCracken on for Murphy (injury) and Trouten (booked)

Murphy injured??? Surely you jest?

Gilmour was poor today until he was moved off the left wing, Caldwell had some decent touches despite being a long way off being fit.

Rovers played 11 men behind the ball which made the first half pretty much a non-event, we had a lot of possession but didn't do anything with it. The second goal made them come out and attack and from that point we started to create more chances.

We controlled most of the game but never looked like we would run up a cricket score

As others have said, we were very poor, so I'll gloss over that and concentrate on the very few positives. These were limited to Gary Fisher, who was alone amongst the starting XI in playing well, and Ally Love who lifted things when he came on.

I suppose another positive is that Blair Lochhead was a trialist in goal; he looked like a wee boy lost and surely won't be signed on that showing.

Maybe a bit harsh on the Rovers, i thought they maybe just got their tactics wrong.

Why they would come and sit in on the opening day i have no idea especially after starting quite brightly.

I thought both teams started the game really well and a good game of football was ahead then they just kind of sat off us and we knocked it about between our defenders for spells.

Once we had got our second goal we started to make some really nice play, shame to lose one at the end as the defence had been solid throughout.
