As the new season nears.....

Crowds have dwindled over the last few years for most if not all clubs. Have any clubs introduced or plan to introduce things to entice supporters back or get new supporters involved in supporting their clubs?

I'd say that as junior football as we know it is exclusive to us I think it would be good if clubs shared their ideas on how they try and bring in support as if it works we all benifit as a group.

Given the quality & the cost of following the seniors v the juniors IMO its a no brainer to follow junior football and I know recently many clubs have seen ex senior supporters follow their side.

Another point, as an Arthurlie supporter I was pleased by the turnout of people for ourselves and Kilwinning Rangers at the recent West cup final, that said there were many faces celebrating that I hadn't seen as I guess the same happened to the Buffs albeit being on the losing side after a great season.

How do clubs keep hold of these people on a regular basis rather than they just turn up for finals?

I know that people will jump on the back of a successful club, that's obvious, but how do we get the message over that if those sometime supporters came to every home game it would boost the cash at the club thus helping them sign players to be successful?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

For as long as I have watched junior football, it has tended to attract an older age group. To try to get a younger support involved, than clubs need to be pro active. I don't think it is enough to have say, free entry to under 16s or school pupils as don't think that in itself will get many extra bodies along. Going into school and giving a lunchtime talk on your club, some videos, the benefits of suppoting your local club in terms of the knock on benefits for the community, a couple of the clubs supporters explaining why they follow their local junior club as opposed to Old Firm or whoever. You need to lead fans to the club, free tickets are not enough. That's my twopence worth and I might be completely off the mark with my suggestion ; also realise that making any lunchtime presentation involves personnel who might not be available due to their own commitments

I chatted to a guy i know a few weeks back...he posts a lot of pics of his boy playing football wearing every top european clubs shirts....i asked him if he`d got his boy a Bankies top and he replied that he hadnt.....the kids grandad is an ex bankies player......... i guess what im trying to say is that if we keep buying our kids celtic or rangers shirts then a lot of them are going to go on to be supporters of those clubs..... tbh ill be steering my kid away from the OF and the sectarian bollox that goes hand in hand with it.....its not a problem if he decides to follow Celtic but it would be nice for him to follow his local side...i reckon getting the kids involved early has got to be a good thing..........but the best way to attract followers is to have a good side on the park playing good football...if you aint got that youve got nowt.

Aye.............the west clubs came up with a great plan to try and get supporters back watching, they increased admission charges.

Which, provided you don't increase season ticket prices as well, makes season tickets even better value for money. We've reduced our season ticket prices to hopefully increase club membership. This season, the season ticket is paid for after 6 games out of 13. Great value.

Tbh Dr V I support Celtic and always will and have only followed the juniors for around 5-6 years but I've seen great entertainment in those years and will from now on go to junior games whoever it may be playing.

I am the same i have supported celtic since i was very young just like i have the Roy , I go to far more Roy games than celtic games but you can have a healthy love / support whatever you want to call it for a team in both grades , just my opinion.

On getting more people into the games , its a question that has came up on this forum loads of times , i sure don't have the answer but what i have noticed in recent years is the positivity , the ambition , the will of clubs to look to the community and setting up youth teams ,a heck of a lot of clubs are on the up in the juniors , clubs who years ago you thought would be lucky to last much longer. Junior football has so much going for it , that's why its frustrating when you hear of certain clubs who crowd figures are down.

I think the OP nugent4nil is going more by his own team by that i mean he sees his own teams regular support dwindle but turn up in good numbers for big games , that happens at a lot of clubs but we still have some clubs who are growing ( slowly maybe ) in terms of support so its not all doom and gloom.

How's about getting rid of that horrible tag that holds us back that's called " Junior"

It's as antiquated as our governing bodies are thick and dinosaur like.

A major backwardness for me is our grade being called junior.

It's about trying new things! It's about not only putting a good show on the park but off it too! Make match days a family occasion! Junior football offers great value for money but wots needed is for kids to be entertained so they want to come back the following week! Clubs need to have youth teams below them which will help not only with future players but with match day attendances!

I agree that the term junior should be changed to 'Semi professional' but like you've said some people are stuck in there ways in the dark ages!

I'd go for Regional Football League.

Armadale v Broughty East Super League play off played on the 10th June a lovely summer's evening with an Attendance of over 600 which is about 5 times the normal gate proves the only way forward for junior football is summer football. I know many problems exist but it's done in other countries with a similar.climate eg Ireland so let's solve the problems.

Youth teams are the way forward, other family members are more likely to attend if it's for the good of their relations in some way. It also gives the kids identities and ups the profile of the club.

They could be used as runners also, they could nip over to the snack hut and get me chicken soup, for a nominal fee of course. ???? It's a win win situation.

There seems to have been a influx of younger punters coming to our games over the last season or so - not huge, but encouraging.

Where the "black hole" seems to be are the people between mid-twenties and late thirties, basically the Sky Sports generation - football fans who get their fix from an armchair or a bar stool, the kind who could reel off the whole Stoke City team but haven't been inside a ground for years.

NO it doesn't. You think if there was a full card of Junior games on that all the people that went a lot who support other junior clubs would go to armadale. NO
