If we were to finish third and not be one of the best placed third finishers, we would be unseeded in the playoffs. If you can't play up to your seeding in the group and get through, you don't deserve a cushy draw in the playoffs. If they're going to seed the playoffs it should at least be based on your points total in the group so that it's fair, rather than just an attempt to get all the big teams through. No. There were seeded play offs in tournaments before then (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA_play-off))but at the time, quite amazingly, the Irish thought they were being victimised. Why would they need an announcement? The time before it was seeded. Anyone with a brain knew it was going to be seeded. Yet for some reason an entire nation went into a hissy fit just because the play off draw followed the exact same procedures as the previous one.
