EOS Qualifying Cup 2015-16

I see the draw is up on the EOS League website. I've highlighted LL clubs in bold. Mixed bag draw, but some interesting ties in store.

Spartans face 3 of the bottom 4 clubs in the Scottish pyramid.

Whitehill renew acquaintance with Civil Service, who they played in the season just ended and who put them out of the South Challenge Cup. Stirling travel to holders and EOS Premier Division champions LTHV; whilst EK hosts EOS First Division champions Peebles.

Only a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 all-LL ties in last 16 so potential for a lot of big ties come the sharp-end.

FT scores. Much as you would have expected. Narrow wins for LL clubs over top EOSL opposition Leith and Lothian THV... thumping wins otherwise.

Craigroyston 4-2 Coldstream

Kelso 1-5 Hawick

Lothian THV 0-1 Stirling Uni

Ormiston 3-2 Heriot-Watt

East Kilbride 8-0 Peebles

Gala 4-3 Leith

Duns 1-5 Edinburgh Uni

Preston 1-3 Gretna

I took in the Duns-match and in fairness 5-1 was not a representative score. Duns more than matched Uni in the first half and had a deserved 1-0 lead at HT, whipped cross from the right which their striker took first time and screamed round the keeper. Wracked by injuries holidays and weddings Duns only had 12 players and had to deploy their only sub at HT, losing towering centre-half Brydon to a cut above the eye. Missing him in defence and with Uni's speed, fitness and neat passing troubling them more and more, they eventually fell behind and conceded 3 more late on. Blonde striker bagged hat-trick.

We could have been a few up rather than a few down against Hawick at half time. Hit the bar 2 of the line first half went in 3 down wondering how.

Another game about a referee very stop start. a red card for our manager and a 2nd booking along with 2 penalties. 1 of which was saved, one of they games where if u take your chances your in with a shout. But that's football.

Young side at kelso with two 16 year olds getting a chance to show their worth along with others.

Why can pro players & even and players be sanctioned for criticising officials on social media, but you never seem to at this level willie?

Our ref at the Pennypit was fine. Then again we won :P.

Gretna dominated the first half and Preston were fortunate only to be two down at half time. The second half was more even with both teams getting a goal a piece.

Anyone know if there will be highlights of Gala v Leith? Both have done them in the past but not continuously. Sounds from twitter like it was a cross of Barcelona-Sevilla in last week's Supercup, Escape to Victory, and the Battle of Rorke's Drift...

Agree with this. Duns played really well but also fitness kicked in and in the eos page a said the uni played very well really good passing team. However, the penalty decision was very harsh as it was a dive. Even Tom Daley would have been proud of that. We lost two goals with free headers at corners and over the years its seems to have become an achilles heel for us

Another point i mentioned in the Eos forum was the antics of the Edin uni manager swearing and screaming at the ref at half time and full time. It was absolutely embarrassing to watch and listen to and he certainly disgraced the Uni.

Plenty photographers but didn't see any video cameras! Some torturous defending by both teams which was contrasted with some nice football in the middle of the park. Leith started the brightest but fell away badly, especially in the second half when they failed to take make the most of their numerical advantage.

Mind boggling decisions by incompetent officials had a huge effect on this game and will continue to have on the next few games to come as a thread bare Gala now have 2 first choice players on bans and it was not a dirty game by any means !

Saturday 5th September

First Round

(3pm) - Spartans v Burntisland

Second Round

(3pm) - East Kilbride v Tynecastle

(3pm) - Edinburgh City v Ormiston

(3pm) - Gala v Stirling Uni

(3pm) - Vale of Leithen v Craigroyston

Saturday 3rd October

First Round

(2:30pm) - Civil Service v Whitehill

Interesting change of fortunes - last season both the finalists came from the EOS League (LTHV / Leith); this season they are both out already and CSS or Burntisland are going to have to batter through a couple of rounds or some of others win their fairly tough R2 away ties, just for an EOS League team even to reach QFs.

Incidentally their 8-0 demolition of Peebles was EK's first-ever win in EOSFA competition, and their record win in senior football.
