St Mirren Captain Mutilates Team-mate

Recommended Posts

St Mirren captain Steven Thompson says he is "mortified" after 'spearing' team-mate John McGinn in a training ground prank.

Thompson threw a spiked pole at McGinn which pierced his thigh and meant the 20-year-old missed Saturday's win over Kilmarnock.

The Scotland Under-21 midfielder is expected to be out for a further three weeks with the injury.

"I'm mortified by the whole thing," said Thompson. "It was a daft prank."

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the 36-year-old added: "I threw it for a laugh, stupid me trying to be funny, and unfortunately it's anything but. It's a total disaster."

St Mirren refused to comment when contacted by the BBC and said they would be dealing with the matter internally.

Great captaincy in my opinion, as proven by the result on Saturday.

All football captains should be handy with a javelin. Just in case. Probably better to use it on the opposition mind.

That's what's training's for though. It'd be embarassing if he hit his team mate during a match

The less effective of the spearers. Rhino was always top dug.

Rhinos was a "Gore" :P I think you'll find Goldberg was more effective than Edge though
