Matty Phillips

BAWS

Recommended Posts

Been watchin QPR a few times lately, and how this guy hasn't been in any of Strachans Scotland squads is ridiculous.

A pacey, skillful wide man with an end product who can take set pieces and is comfortable on either foot.. He has also gave the Chelsea defenders a terrible time today So far. Has to be in v Qatar and Ireland.

The problem for Phillips is that we have quite a few good players who play in the same position/ role as him. IMO, I would rather have Anya, Snod (when back to full fitness), Maloney and Russell (a bit of a odd choice but he offers something different to the team) before Phillips at the moment.

I was surprised he wasn't in the squad for the last two matches, seemed like the perfect time to bring him back. Instead we got Matt Ritchie.

Should certainly be in the squad although I wouldn't expect him to feature against Ireland. In such a big game Strachan will, understandly, play players he trusts.

We have far too many central players and not enough who can effect the game by running at defenders with pace out wide like Phillips. Anya on one side and Phillips on the other would give full backs a head ache. And in my opinion Phillips is the best choice we have for a winger, not just a squad filler.

When Snoddy was fit, his last few caps were from through the middle just behind the striker and he was arguably man of the match in every single one of those games.

Imagine Anya-Snodgrass-Phillips all behind a front man, would be fantastic. Phillips is a no brainer to be in Scotland squads now for me.

Anyone got a good video of his skills? I've never really seen much of him, so I'm not sure what to make of the clamour to have him in the squad.

But I'd say that if Matt Ritchie can waltz right into the squad and starting XI, then Phillips deserves a closer look maybe in the Qatar friendly.

Plenty on Youtube bud, have a look. Make sure and check out his goal against Crystal Palace the other week too, f*cking outstanding.

As someone who frequently visits Loftus Road for matches, it's my opinion that Phillips would be very unlucky not to be recalled for the next squad. He probably just didn't deserve it for the last squads. He's been absolutely brilliant since January (well, since Redknapp left) but before then, he was in and out of the squad and when he was in, there wasn't much to shout about.

But yeah, since January, I'm struggling to think of a better Scottish player around right now on current form to be honest. He'll be playing in the Premier League next season for sure whether it's with QPR or not. The last 4 months have done enough to guarantee that.

Fully expect James Forrest to be picked ahead of him

Strachan has done wonders for us but he needs to cut out being so loyal to the players he brings in the squad and use the numbers to put players in on form.

Phillips, Adam and Griffiths have all had fantastic 2015s and all 3 need to be in that squad for me.

Matty Phillips is being watched by a few big teams in the Premiership so regardless of what happens to QPR he'll still be in that league. In my opinion the best winger we have and he needs to be a starter from now on. Make it happen Strachan.

Think of the pace on each side with Anya and Phillips... :)

Did he not play away to Belgium?

He hasn't been in the squad since 2012 which is ridiculous in itself, and he has only played under Levein which has also probably scarred the lad.

He is only 24 but looks to have hit his prime, and his prime is looking very very good.
