If we do wind up third, as we are in a six-team group our results against Gibraltar would be discarded (assuming they finish sixth)

before the table was calculated.

f**k it, lets just win the group instead.

Yeah but the results of other teams against the likes of the Faroes, San Marino etc won't matter either so they pretty much cancel each other out

That is true, but some of the groups aren't so cut and dried as far as settling sixth place goes.

That said, now I squint at the table a bit harder, there are teams lurking with much better GD than us,

so it looks likely to be a tough spot to finish in.

Will change again after belgium probably beat Israel on Tuesday . This will then make Israel the best third placer I think

No. Israel would be on six points from their games, excluding the three against Andorra. Scotland are on seven not including the points gained against Gibraltar.

Russia will move above us if UEFA award them a win for the abandoned Montenegro game though.

It makes for interesting reading at the moment, as I don't think we'd be seeded if, say, Hungary were to finish top. Surely the Ukraine, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Russia would be ahead of us in the rankings.

Thankfully, it's unlikely they'll all finish third, and we'll be finishing in the top two anyway :thumsup2

Based on the 2 assumptions that Belgium beat Israel tomorrow and Russia get awarded a 3-0 win then Scotland would at the moment be one of the seeded teams in the 3rd place playoffs.

Seeded teams would be Netherlands, Switzerland, Ukraine and Scotland. The unseeded teams would be Israel, Albania, Hungary and Norway.

I don't know if this site is reliable, but it lists Scotland (#29) under Israel, Hungary, and Norway:

Would be confident of going through against all those teams apart from the Dutch and the Swiss.

I was using each team's actual rankings rather than a 3rd party site.

I think you were using FIFA's rankings, though. UEFA have their own, which they'll be using for the play-off seedings, and we're not viewed as generously :(
