Talking thro my pocket having notice Ashfield had lost every game this calendar year by a combined score of 21-3, I can only assume Shettleston did not bother turning up :thumbsdown

This same Shettleston who have beaten 2 superleague teams this year.

Perhaps this competition wasn't Shettleston's priority, given that they still have half a league season to play from the start of April onwards, as well as still being in the West of Scotland Cup.

Ashfield weren't even at home , it got played at st rochs ground. I suspect given the amount of fixtures shettleston have to play in the league and still in the west they just wanted this game out the way though that's maybe doing ashfield a disservice . Also the possibility the field have brought in some new faces.

Big upset ,anyone at game?

I attended this one, as a neutral.

A good cup tie for the neutral. I certainly didn't get the feeling Shettleston were apathetic - they had most of the posssession as you would expect.

I'm not familiar enough with the Shettleston line-up (and there was no team sheet / prog / announcements) to know whether they fielded a weaker side today, but the number 6 who got subbed off after 65mins looked so young he was probably making his debut.

Strong end-to-end wind, but the same for both sides. It didn't affect the game. The surface played well, so no excuse there either.

Shettleston took the lead on 23mins, Ashfield equalized just 4 minutes later.

Shettleston went ahead again on 66 - by the sub who'd only just come on to replace the youngster.

But Ashfield didn't give up, and made it 2-2 in the 88th.

And so straight to pens. None were 'missed' (wide etc) - all were on-target, credit to the keepers for making saves. Shettleston went first, their 3rd of the 5 was saved. Ashfield had converted all of theirs coming to the 5th, which would therefore have won it, but it was saved. Into sudden death. Shettleston's 6th was saved, whereas Ashfield's number 9 tucked his away to settle the tie.

A fair win for Ashfield, who should be congratulated, rather than focusing on Shettleston 'failing'.

Great assessment. ....It was pretty much a strong shetto team with a few fringe players and a few back from injury...n06 was Johnny Forrest and was making his debut....I wouldnt agree that the surface was fine...was very bumpy in places and could have been doing with a roll before kick off

You're absolutely right it does read that way and glensmad did say it.

I'll admit it does read that way, but I absolutely did not say that Shettleston took a hammering. I apologise for any offence taken, it was merely a conversation comment and I didn't expect The Spanish Inquisition. 8):death

Congrats to Ashfield don't agree was end to end if it was won or lost on possession it would have been over at half time. Town did field a young debutant and 2 players out for over a year with injury as manager felt we may not get chance to give them any game time again this season plus couple of fringe players. So no sour grapes well done Ashfield a
