Osama bin Ant
A new publication, 'Origin of St Anthony's FC', will be on sale at McKenna Park tomorrow at the Ants/Roch cup-tie. It costs £6, which includes a donation towards the players' kit etc. This goes into great detail about how, and controversially when, the Ants were formed, and gives an insight into the part played by the League of the Cross temperance organisation in Scottish football. In addition to Ants fans, 'Origin' should appeal to football historians and maybe the odd programme editor too. It should be available from about 1.00 pm onwards. No obligation to stay for the match - that would be too cruel.
Shanner
Want onebut won't be able to go to the game so do you have to go to the game to buy it or are they available online somewhere?
tamthebam
I believe this mighty tome has been years in the preparation and I look forward to obtaining a copy in due course- based on Osama Bin Ant's previous scribblings it should be an entertaining read if nothing else despite all his hard work, the committee still disagreed with the research regarding the date of the club's foundation... tinto
Based on the quality of research Osama has provided in the past I feel certain it will be a good publication and addition to the Junior fitba history trail.. If Osama or the Ants would like to PM me I will buy a copy. Thanks, Tinto

kilsyth ranger
Is the story true that Celtic actually pinched the idea of the barrell hoops strips from the ants ? Heard this a few times ?
RobRoyGuy
Story goes a Celtic board member at turn of 20th century took in ants game and liked the strip that much that it became the Celtic strip.
Hillonearth
One of those urban legends, it appears - the Ants only started up when Celtic had already adopted the hoops. In the 1870s/80s however Hibs were wearing this strip which looks more than familar:
PRICEY
I think it was Osama that admitted on Kerrydale Street that the Ants were formed after Celtic adopted the hoops.
Osama bin Ant
Sales of Origin are going well - many thanks to all the St Roch's folk who bought copies on Saturday. A few people at the Ants were dischuffed by the revised date, but there were no public burnings! For various reasons - including a (failing) supermarket chain, a Chinese factory, and an intermittent supply of plastic display books - I can't guarantee that Origin is available at any given time, so I'm not doing mail order just now. It will, hopefully, be on sale at Ants home matches from now on, and I will certainly take copies to away games whenever possible. Just look out for the guy in the rather attractive West Allotment Celtic hat.Unfortunately the fixture curse has struck the Ants yet again and we are left with one home game and eight away this season. Apparently it's our own fault for spending time and money on the park and having it playable during the Winter months. Absolutely unforgivable, I know, and we must accept our punishment ('asm' and 'sarc', but not necessarily in that order).
