The youths and amateurs use it for cup games etc, we are due to play a semi there soon. Every year this same conversation takes place and the parks fucked. Same for Paties Road.

Council facilities overused and under resourced... Shock!

Must be a pain in the hoop for LTHV.

if Edinburgh Cooncil weren't rookit you could put in a 3/4G pitch into Saughton Enclosure, build a wee stand to shelter punters and have something a bit like Carluke's John Cumming Stadium (before neds set fire to the pitch)

I have seen plans for it and that's almost what's going to happen, they would share it with tynie. They were waiting on council signing it off

Would love to see it! Makes good sense for them to share anyway.

From EoS website (sorry, a bit off-topic):

27/03/2015 - Statement from Tynecastle on new Manager

'The Tynecastle Football Club are pleased to announce the appointment of our 1st Team Management structure, to take effect from next season.

Steven Vinter has been appointed Manager. Steven is currently in charge of our Under 21 team and latterly has assisted with the 1st Team after the resignation of the previous manager. He is fully qualified as a coach to meet all the requirements of the team going forward and we are indeed blessed that we have someone of his talent at our disposal.

Steven will be assisted in the coaching of the players by his brother, Ross and has also been successful in adding to that of his back room team by recruiting ex Hearts and Dundee United striker, Scott Crabbe.

Lee Wallace, Rangers and Scotland full back has also agreed to add his considerable playing and coaching knowledge to the coaching team and whilst Lee may not always be available on matchdays, his presence at the training sessions will be of enormous benefit.

Current Goalkeeping Coach Fraser McLeod will continue to work with the goalkeepers.

Douglas Dalgleish, Tynecastle Club Chairman said “ we are truly delighted that Steven has accepted our invitation to become 1st Team Manager and has already put together a coaching staff that is second to none.

We are confident that his, and that of the coaching team, with their game knowledge and enthusiasm will ensure that the team makes the progress we desire.'

Read that he took an amateur side on Tuesdays and Thursdays - take it he'll be bumping that for Tynie? Could be a good arrangement for both of them. Don't know much about Mr Vinter tho...

Hope the council do sign off those plans and they get a ground-share on the go with Hutchie with decent, modern facilities - that also meet licencing requirements (or else, what's the point?). But, being Edinburgh Council (and if the trams are anything to go by), there could be a very long wait for the thing to actually be finished!

The Tynecastle Football Club are pleased to announce that as from next season, the 1st Team intend to play their home matches at Saughton Enclosure.

The venue will become a ground share with Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale who also participate in the East of Scotland F A .

The move to play matches at our own side of the City is seen as a very positive one and allows the Club to play nearly all matches and have all training arrangements, be it adult or youth, at one venue, that of Saughton.

The 1st Team, who play in the East of Scotland League, have been based at Fernieside Recreation Ground for a considerable period of time and have tried over the years to improve the ground to a higher standard without significant success. It was therefore decided some months ago to seek an alternative playing facility. Discussions with the City Council, Edinburgh Leisure and the SFA have all been very positive.

Despite the fact that the pitch at Saughton Enclosure will now be used more frequently, Tynecastle have made a commitment to work together with the City Council, Edinburgh Leisure and Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale to improve the playing surface and that of other facilities at Saughton Enclosure.

In theory sounds great but as the state of the enclosure is shocking anyway ,,,as the council have done nothing to it then any improvement will help

but 2 teams on that pitch ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,good luck

Does sound promising. Hope they get some decent investment and bring it up to a good standard that'll help enable both clubs to get licenced. Artificial pitch surely a must with 2 teams playing on it!

I thought the pavilion at Fernieside was decent- you can get a pie and a cup of tea at the stall there.

At Saughton you can get a cup of weak tea if the tea machine is working and nae pies... :(
